RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

The smartest thing Cutler did was audition at the combine... another mistake Leinart made besides losing the rose bowl was not working out at the combine. Comparing someone to Farve is pretty ballsy though... aside from his play on a not so great team he did great. Being rated by some 3rd in the class of QB's in the draft... it wasn't even an option for Cutler but to work our to participate. This kid is a player, a baller and seems to lead by example. I think he has a legitimate shot at being drafted before any of the QB's can't wait for the Pro days to start...

I just like this guy's attitude.(and his athletic ability of course.) No fear...nothing to hide....very cocky.

from all I seen and heard about this guy he is a stand up dude, no into all the media buzz just a player...

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

Different people will be in different camps at this point for various reasons. If we go QB I'd like to see Cutler for my own reasons as stated elsewhere. I also think he will be a better fit for the current team and will be well recieved by the players. I like the fact that he went to an academic school and what I have seen not only in games but at the workouts. Ya he's doing everything Combine Senior bowl ect. be it for the meer fact that Vandy gets little attention in the media, and I will not be surprised to see him be the first QB off the board (I think it will be a tossup between him and Leinart dependant on what happens draft day with trades and such).

Or maybe I just like to root for the underdog, hey I am a Saints Fan.

i like this kid. he wants the pressure.

I like the underdog comment Fan.....powerful stuff! ;0)

The more I read about him the more I am persuaded. Outside of tools and such its his persona that counts. This guy thinks he is the best...he feels he is the best....and based on his performances...he will not give up until its over. The SAINTS really need a guy like this at the helm.

Good article Jeebs, I know Miami was hoping to pick him up, but I don't think he's going to last that long.

Good to see you Deuce....I figured you'd be comin in and hatin on the man sooner or later. But its all good....a difference of opinion is what makes this forum fun.

Yeah, I also like the underdog comment. I like Cutler now more than Leinhart or Young, so trade down some, get Cutler, and with the 2 2nds get Jean Gilles and a OLB and Im happy

Hmmm... Cutler a Dolphin...that would be nice. I am also a Dolphin fan but the Saints are my top priority and we need Cutler at the helm in NO. Period!

Dude,

Time will tell, won't it. I also at least stated that I would eat my words if Leinart goes on to have a great first three years or career in the NFL for that fact. No need to resort to name calling. Until either proves anything at the next level we are dealing in hypotheticals.

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

Has anyone actually seen this guy play in a real game? I feel like Cutler fans are jumping on his bandwagon because some scouts were impressed with how this guy works and throws in practice. We all know what Leinart can do because soo many of his games are televised and he has shown that time after time he comes up big. I read all the articles about Cutler and they are impressive but none of these articles ever mention about experiences watching the guy play in a game. I have never seen the guy throw a pass in a competitive game so I'm not going to bash the guy but rather praise Leinart from what I have seen. Leinart is a great decision maker, makes all the throws, and wins time after time. Leinart sounds like the guy to me.

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

I'llbe happy with Cutler or Leinart at #2....I want NO to use that pick for what it should be used for a franchise player that embodies the future of the team...As long as AB is gone along with Bouman

saintswhodi 03-01-2006 03:50 PM

Is it just coincidence that those pushing hardest for Cutler also want AB to stay? Grain of salt............................................................................................

A close friend is Vandy Alum so I have been following his progression over the past three years. I have seen him play quite a bit both on air and at two games. The team is garbage and the guy makes them respectable (well at least gives them a chance to win, I would not call that respectible), any game he is on the field. He is exciting to watch and that's a quality that is needed in NO.

Not knocking leinart but the team was exciting to watch as a QB he had time to find the open man, and there were alot of them. Great system at USC and he took advantage.

I personally don't want to see NO go QB then center and have to wait to pick until Round 4. Too many Holes to fill. But if they go QB I hope they go with Cutler he's got more upside and has had less injury.

TheDeuce 03-01-2006 04:46 PM

Ignore

TheDeuce 03-01-2006 04:46 PM

Gentlemen... the only reason we should take Cutler (which I think would be a waste of a pick) is if we trade down out of the #2 spot. Cutler just isn't the best QB in the draft. PERIOD. He didn't play like it in the season, he didn't play like it in the Senior Bowl, and he hasn't played like it EVER. Anybody who believes that Cutler is better than Young or Leinart is 1) misinformed, and has become caught up in all of this hype; 2) has probably never seen him play a single down of football (with the exception of Fan), but are just willing to accept that he's the next Dan Marino or some bull crap; or 3) a mixture of both. There's a reason this guy wasn't on the Heisman ballot, there's a reason his team couldn't even make it to a bowl game, there's a reason he didn't win any QB awards, and there's a reason that every CREDIBLE source talking about the draft (with the excpetion of crackhead Mortensen) has Cutler listed as the third best QB in the draft. The reason is: because he's not the best QB in the country. He hasn't proven anything. He hasn't won a national championship like the other two have. He's never completed more than 61% of his passes in a season. He's never thrown for more than 3100 yards. He's never thrown for more than 21 touchdowns in a season. He's never even been a finalist for the Davey O'Brien Award. He's never won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Hell, the guy's never even had a winning season in his collegiate career. Why pass up on a guy who is being compared to Tom Brady and Carson Palmer for a guy who's never been a winner? Because he threw well in drills in a combine in February? It can't be because of his Senior Bowl because Charlie Whitehurst was a LOT better. So really, can anybody give me a concrete answer to why this guy should be the #2 selection in the draft, or even the first QB off the board? And please, if you're going to tell me we need to draft Cutler because he's "cocky," "has a good arm," or can bench press a lot, just save it, because that doesn't mean he's a good quarterback. It means he's athletic

BJSim 03-01-2006 05:23 PM

Cutler's getting all the news stories because he's he only offensive talent DOING anything right now. The three best picks in the draft are resting and waiting for thier school's pro days. He'll do well in the NFL once he's had a year or two on the bench, but he's NOT rookie starter material.

Would I draft Cutler before Leinart? NO WAY. Before Young? Possibly. Young has a lot of strikes against him right now.

TheDeuce 03-01-2006 05:35 PM

If you'd like, go to neworleanssaints.com and watch the combine video of the WRs and QBs. Cutler obviously has a big arm, but it's obvious that he's not very accurate. It's a two-hour clip and I've seen him throw numerous bad passes that have missed badly. He looks a lot less acurate than several of the QBs at the combine, but that's just my opinion, you can watch it for yourself.

I know that I I got involved with this yesterday, but come on, which is the point of this argument. From what I'm reading most everyone here thinks that both of these guys are going to be good quarterbacks. So what if one person thinks one thing and another person thinks something else. I mean, get off of it people. Frankly, at this point I would rather have Diet Pepsi Machine over what we have now.

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

I am on the bandwagon to trade down and draft OL or D. That is my number one choice. Teams in the Superbowl did not have a francise QB and you can go back, exclude the Pats and you have nothing but teams with great lines. If I had to pick a QB with the second pick in the draft... I am weighting more towards cutler from what I have seen so far. Leinart has a lot of weapons and couldn't win the national championship, if Leinart comes to NO he will never have the weapons he has had in USC, he will not succeed in a Saint uniform. Young has major upside is an athlete who can put the game on his shoulders and win when it counts. Cutler seems to be the lesser of 2 evils for me... I think with less talent he has the most potential to be succsessful with whatever he has to work with... we still have a lot to go though with all the Pro days coming up...

FatiusJeebs 03-02-2006 09:02 AM

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

Wow....its good to see this thread is still kickin.

Deuce....biased eyes will never be impressed. Why is Moretensen a crackhead? Because he does not see things the way you do? Awww...what a shame. Whodi...still talkin about Brooks eh? Who is the one who really wants him to stay.....us? or YOU?? Anyway back to the topic....Deuce (someone please correct me if I am wrong) was Tom Brady a bonified winner in college? Was Marino?
Yr. Att. Com. Per. Yds. TD Int. Rating
1979 222 130 .586 1680 10 9 80.5
1980 224 116 .518 1609 15 14 71.4
1981 380 226 .595 2876 37 23 90.4
1982 378 221 .584 2432 17 23 67.3

These are Marino's college stats. Does these stats look like a bonafied winner? No but guess what? He turned out to be the greatest. Why? I feel, he had that same never say die attitude that Cutler posseses. I don't recall Marino or Brady winning any "awards". (Again, correct me if I am wrong.) Like I said...collegiate awards really don't mean squat sometimes. I don't care if Leinart won the "Arm of God" award. Outside of the physical tools he already posseses, I personally like Cutler's attitude and I think that it will reflect on his success in the NFL. The Saints need a guy with his attitude at the helm.

I was not sold on the kid to be a top 10 pick but I have to say I was wronge. He would be good for the saints because he is use to getting pounded. With bentley gone that has turned into a key. Then the bench press he did well impressive. He is a tuff kid.

TheDeuce 03-02-2006 09:39 AM

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

We could go on like this until the draft happens, but my point is just like Mel Kiper has said, this guy hasn't DONE anything to prove that he's the best quarterback in the draft. If anybody can tell me why he's the best, and what he's done to prove it, then hey, I'll listen. But saying he has an impressive bench press or that his stats are like Dan Marino's doesn't make me believe that he's worthy of a number two pick. Anybody agree with me?

hagan714 03-02-2006 09:48 AM

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

skip the #2 idea all together for us. he is a 5 -7 guy but the hype might make some one bit in the top 5

zachsaints52 03-02-2006 09:57 AM

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

I wouldn't get him with the 2nd pick. I honestly don't see us having it. If we would get him, we better move down some before we do. I have seen him some on TV, and he does stay cool under pressure, and always the same demeanor. I would rather draft D or OL like Euphoria, because thats where we need it most. Hawk, Brick, Davis (maybe) is ok, but I really wanna trae down before we mess up and actually DO take Young or Cutler with the #2, which would be stupid.

saintswhodi 03-02-2006 10:11 AM

You are right zach, it would be ABSOLUTELY stupid to take Cutler with the number two pick. As for Euphoria, why does anyone listen to this guy? He says Leinart can't win the national championship, and he has done just that. You have to ignore people like that who will cloud facts just to get their point across. Anyone who thinks Cutler should be drafted at number two has no business talking about the draft at all. Period. This kid has doe NOTHING to jump ahead of MAtt Leinart. These are prob the same people who would have taken Ryan Leaf over Peyton Manning. Easily impressed by workouts and potential.

spkb25 03-02-2006 10:16 AM

well whodi what do you do if we are jumped by the jets who take matt. draft vince? in that case give me cutler

FatiusJeebs 03-02-2006 10:17 AM

RE: A good read for Cutler fans.

Deuce I understand you trust Kiper's word and why not the guy seems to have the authority on the matter but he is not in fallable. I wish I could see what he said about a guy like Heath Shuler when he left Tenn. The Redskins picked him with their third pick in the first round. I can assume that the reports on the guy were extremely positive and all. But in the end....well...you know. My deal here is character. I simply like Cutler's attitude a lot more than the others. Outside of the fact that he has the tools to succeed... with what I saw him do in Vandy (which wasn't much but it looked good to me.) and how he has approached the NFL situation makes me feel like this guy has the leadership skills needed to succeed. Especially with the Saints.

One more thing...I will not by any means be upset if we do get Leinart. Good for us if we do....he has proven that he knows how to win. The deal for me is that the NFL is different and I just feel that Cutler's character would benefit the Saints more. Remember this is New Orleans...the fans here are loyal but after so many years of futility...they also expect results. Cutler seems like the type of guy that can handle the pressure this city imposes on the team. Again, this is obviously my opinion.

TRADE DOWN. If we end up with Cutler at number 7 with more picks in hand, I will sing the guy's praises. But as long as Leinart is on the board, all he is gonna get from me is a "Who the f**k is Jay Cutler?"

Actually, NO. And Eli was and should have been the number one pick and Roslinsberger(hope I spelled right) should have went number 2, according to my thoughts and what I was watching two plus years ago.

I am in the trade down camp but only down to say seven at the deepest and go defense or D'Brick because lord knows we need as many picks to fill holes in this draft and there is alot of quality and POTENTIAL impact players that will be availible in the first three rounds.

If we go QB early I'd prefer to see Cutler.

We know where you stand and am happy about that.

Also, just to refraze...>ELI was the number one pick I don't want this misinterpreted
