Everyone knows the Saints are trapped with Brooks. Why would anyone in their right mind trade for a $6 + $7 million pair of base salaries in 2006 and 2007?

Brooks will not be traded. He will be cut. The Saints will get no compensation for Brooks.

The FO is probably just waiting to see how the CBA thing works out. If the CBA fails, as I understand it, then any cap related monies for 2007 will fold instantly into 2006. So while under normal circumstances a cut after June 1 would result in a two year split of the remaining bonus money, I believe that if the CBA fails and the 2007 year is uncapped, that you'd have to take the entire bonus hit at the time of the cut. It's the difference between $2 million and change against the cap and $4 million and a bit more change.

In any case the Saints are stuck with either paying Brooks his $6 million salary and taking a $8+ million cap hit [which is so not happening] or we cut him and take the $2 or $4 million cap hit but save the salary.

Trading isn't an option. You can forget it for now. Payton could possibly play a shell game by holding on to Brooks into the preseason trying to bait someone into trading during camp. Wasn't that how Brooks came to the Saints in 2000? If no other QB get injured and no team takes the bait, simply cut Brooks during the normal August camp cuts.

In any case as long as he is not on the 53 man roster for the 1st game, the Saints do not have to pay him his salary for the year.
And if he is signed after the season starts, then any salaries paid are not guaranteed IIRC.

Moving Jamaal Brown to LT is a HORRIBLE idea. He has played RT his whole football career. Why not keep him at RT where he belongs? We tried this with Turley, it failed. We tried moving LeCharles to center, which he had played some in college, and to a man we ALL agree he was a much better guard. Why would we again take a guy who is a stud at the position he plays, and try to move him? Terrible idea, IMO.

Didn't know ya felt that way... actually I'd kind of have to agree with you there. I just thought because so many people feel that he's so talented, he would eventually make that move to the other side. Well that's the impression I got when he was drafted... when Gandy retires or cut, he would make that move. If it ain't broke, why fix it IMO.

So basically this leads us to Stinchy... a healthy Stinchy capable to anchoring the left side of the line? He was improving before his injury... think he could supplant Gandy with a strong off season?

I hate to say it guys, but Stinchcomb is developing way too slowly for my tastes. Sure it is possible he could play left guard, but, if he had it, you'd think he'd have shown it by now. I am very much starting to believe that Stinch is nothing but a hope of ours.

Lefty yes. so Brown works out good. If that is the way we go then right is left and left is right. But the D will have to shift to make it work. Can Brown keep up with faster DE? I think so. So if we do go matt the LOT wont have to cost us a fortune. Right? Grady is getting 4 million this year so his salary is ok but it can go a long way to upgrading LOT. Jon was haz choice at LOT but Haz always played guys out of position. I see him at G. Then we can dump mayberry salary and keep Jacox. F/A or drafted C that can stsrt is prime.
As for brooks who knows payton keep collins in NY and made him $$ with oaklsnd as a FA.
Brooks sign a cap friendly 3 year deal and is mentor to VY as our #2 pick.
The first part about brooks makes sense.
