this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Nobody has seen him play since his injury. I think having concerns about his ability to throw after a torn rotator cuff is legit and natural....

RE: Re: I guess what they say IS true........
Deuce here is my problem, this is something we should be rallying around. This is not some "well if this doesn't happen we can just get someone else to fill the spot and still have a playoff shot." Contrary to popular belief a rookie QB WILL not get us into the playoffs. Especially with the other question marks at other postions. My problem is not the skeptisism about Brees' injury. My problem is that getting a FA QB that we weren't even expecting to be in the hunt for a week ago, is not being praised by some fans. Last year the coaching staff wouldn't have even gave Brees a second look, and now we have a staff that is in the forefront on a position of need we should all be excited. I am sorry some are not.

Who wasn't praising him? I think everybody here knows Brees is good, hell, he's a Pro Bowler. But his injury is just scary.

I hav made it clear that it is good to be skeptical about him, but some people on here, maybe not you particularly, want to throw the baby out with the bath water. If that is not you then none of my comments are pointed to you. So it isn't a matter of not praising Brees it is a matter of people getting upset with the team for wanting him to join our team, or maybe I am reading some of these posts wrong.

Deuce, it's nice to have one person with the same opinion. Brees would be a major upgrade as long as he is fully recovered. You never know, and I feel uneasy throwing soo much money at a guy who is coming off a severe injury to his shoulder. Also, a lot of people want to sign Brees because "he will help us win now." I'd love to be optimistic but regardless of who is our qb, it's going to be very difficult for us to make the playoffs with our schedule, which is the most difficult schedule in the NFL. If we sign Brees to a short-term contract, draft Leinart and let Matt learn from Drew I'd say it would be a good idea. I don't feel comfortable signing Brees to a long-term deal, guaranteeing most of his money early in the contract. This would make it virtually impossible to draft Leinart and we would be taking a huge gamble on a guy who may never return to his former self.

And I am not a fan of Leinart, by any means. I can see signing Brees for a incentive based contract or a backend loaded contract but who nows five months from now how he will be able to perform. That's alot of eggs for one basket |
