BJ

I'm good with grabbing him I just think the price comming off injury is steep, especially if he can't play this year. That's all. Other than that Love the aquisition.

Yes, we should tell teams that we are going to draft Leinhart at #2 or that we are going to use that pick. That will only up the ante and create a bidding war for the #2 pick. If we tell teams we are trading the pick why would the Titans or Jets trade up, when the player they want will be there with out the trade by the Saints. We have the power, but will we screw it up and end up with nothing, who knows. But they MUST act like they are planning to use this pick.

I don't know if I buy it or not....

But Brees supposedly said that Katrina made him WANT to be in NO to participate in the rebuilding effort.

Prolly PR BS, but I like it anyway

Well over the last couple days I've been the biggest anti-Drew Brees person on this website. While I know a lot of you aren't going to agree, here's my thoughts on us signing Drew...

I think we overpayed way too much for a mediocre qb. We just shelled shelled out Tom Brady/ Peyton Manning money to Drew (bleeping) Brees. I'm not totally sold on him making a full recovery from his injury either. Another concern I have about Brees is that now since he got the big contract that all athletes want, he is going to relax and we will never see him play at the level he did for those 2 good years in SD. This was a guy who was in the dog house in SD until they used the 4th pick on Rivers. Rivers didn't sign right away, and as a result a fire was lit under Brees and he played real well. Now he has no competiton at qb and has the big contract, we're not going to see him perform at a pro bowl level. He clearly wanted to go to Miami and when they went with Culpepper he was resigned to inking a deal with us. I can't wait to see a guy who doesn't even want to be here play for us. He is all about the money, and now since he has it he is going to be a mediocre qb for the 6 years he spends here. Don't get me wrong, he is a HUGE upgrade from what we had, but I am now more sure than ever that Matt Leinart is going to have a Hall of Fame career. Also, unless Leinart wows the Jets or Raiders, there is a very good chance that we will be stuck with the number 2 pick. While these teams may want to trade up, both teams can now stay put and still get one of the big 3 if that's the direction they choose. I am a huge NY Yankee fan so I'm used to overpaying for players. But atleast with the Yanks, I can tell myself, "Well besides the money, they came here to win now and be a part of the most storied franchise in all of sports." With the Saints, I know the guy came here just for the money. I hope I'm wrong and Brees only gets better as a qb and does for us what he did for SD and then some (Super Bowl championship). Unfortunately, I can't help but think this isn't a signing that is going to lead us to a Super Bowl. Here's to wasting the #2 pick on the 2nd best linebacker in the big 12 from last year or on another DE. Atleast with the money I'm going to save from buying a Leinart jersey I can use to get wasted watching Drew Brees float passes the way a NY qb I see every sunday do

P.S. Woody Paige and Bill Plaschke on Around the Horn agree with me on the Brees signing... however Bill's a homer and Woody doesn't know much, so if they think it was a bad move it's probably was a good move, hahaha. (Really, I'm just digging for anything, trying to convince myself it's the right move)

I just watched that too. Generally speaking they are all uninformed and don't know the Saints as well as any of us do, so I didn't put too much stock into what they say, whether they liked the move or not. One of them thinks, like John Clayton, that we'll draft Mario Williams, which we all know won't happen. Even if a team source said it, it's all posturing to drum up interest for trade possibilities. I wish Michael Smith had been on, since he's from NO and is very familiar with the team.

Goldrush, I agree that this is the wrong episode for Michael Smith to skip. I'm curious to hear his insights on the signing. And, I'll say it again, I know I'm being tough on Brees but I thought there were better paths for the Saints to travel to get what we all want, a super bowl championship! We all love our Saints and while we may want different players, coaches, and schemes, one thing we have in common is we want championships. So, heres to hoping I'm wrong on this one

I don't think I could have ever asked for a better way to return to this site.

Just to let everyone know I am offically back from Iraq now.

Picking up Brees is a blessing. We should be able to trade our number slot and pick up some more draft slots and build a good team. Lets just hope and pray our leadership in the front office realizes what can happen and pounce on it.

GO SAINTS GO!
