Charger Boards
I spent a while perusing SD Charger boards tonight. The sentiments were exactly opposite of our soon to be departed QB (not that there was no negative comments). There was a lot of anger at their FO for letting him go. I'll paste a few that typlify their thoughts, all from today.
------------ I like Drew Brees, and I think we had a better shot with him then we did with Rivers, but now that he's gone Rivers is my QB. Drew can say what he wants, he can do what he wants. If he's happy, then it was all worth it for him. Am I pissed at some of the things he's said? Absolutely. But I'm pissed at a lot of people over the handling of our off-season so far. That frustration with coaching, management, players and whatever does not and should not taint the memories and admiration you hold for a person's talent and determination in their given area ------------- Never forget Drew Brees, the Charger. You can say what you want Drew Brees, the free-agent, but have respect for the first man in a decade to lead your teams to the playoffs while putting up monster stats. ------------- If Brees goes, it will ultimately become one of the greatest loses in Chargers history. It is unfortunate to see business continue to invade great football. Brees is a playmaker, a teammate, a fighter, and a winner. He battled through doubt like few others have. The loss will echo through the locker room and disrupt the synergy of a Superbowl contender. It will be all the difference. No disrespect to Phillip Rivers, but the pieces are in place, though simply with distraction. -------------- I am delighted that Brees came to an impasse in MIAMI, hope the same in NO and then he ends up home!!! --------------- This really bums me out. I so wanted Brees over Rivers!! All I keep have flashes of is Rivers turning out to be another Ryan Leaf. I need an Advil and some antacids at this point --------------- Drew thanks for you tenture here in chargers.. good luck in NO.. i hope you can bring that team out of the slump congrats on the contract thats a lot of money for you bud! Hope to play you guys in the super bowl someday! or Next next season --------------- It will take a couple years for the entire team to re-gel behind Rivers now, as it took a couple years for the same effect behind Brees. I think this was the worst thing the Chargers have done in years. -------------- You ask me, we San Diego fans have been robbed again. I guess on the upside, Feeley and Rivers are no Ryan Leaf or Craig Whelihan. I need a beer. ------------- Is anyone really hurt by DB leaving? I am. He was the best QB we've had in many years. He's underrated, and the AJ Smith machine was working it's best to make Brees seem like damaged goods, when all reports out of rehab were that he was far ahead of schedule. Not to mention that he was good enough to command a $60 million contract. His numbers against those taking his place is a David and Goliath story. Oh well. We can't even trade for a good QB, since we don't want to lose Gates, and LT isn't going anywhere. Oh well, 5 more years of sub-par, playoff-less football in SD. Who knows, this could all be coming together to help San Diego and their fans grow disenchanted with an NFL franchise paving the way for relocation. -------------- This Is Killing Me Guys!!!!!!!!! How Did We Let This Happen? I'm Officially Calling For A.j.'s Job, Now!!!!!!!!! Please Can Someone Justify This For Me? cannot believe AJ Twit and the Chargers let this happen!!!! Sad sad day. Rather than taking a step forward, mark my words... the Bolts have taken a great big step backwards! Drew gave his ALL to the Chargers and was the heart of that Bolts' offense. Now they'll go with Phillips? GOOD LUCK! Are you kidding me!? Oh well... hope Drew does well in the Big Easy! |

RE: Charger Boards
Haha two things I noticed about this:
The Chargers fans really seem to have liked the guy. They've seen him play the most, so I'd take their opinion over most sports writers in NYC any day. Also, I think it is hilarious to compare and contrast how the people on the Chargers board say goodbye to a player in comparison to how people on this board say goodbye to a player. They praise him, tell him good luck in the future, and congratulate him on the opportunity. We tell players that leave here to kiss our arses and break a leg (literally) on their new team. Just the difference in history of two squads I guess. |

The only player that we've lost thus far this season that I'd even come close to saying things like that about is Fahkir Brown. I wouldn't even say anything for Bentley since he was dead-set on leaving anyways. But you're right about the way we send players packing. Screw 'em. LOL

NO NO NO... don't take a few selective posts to decide the fans here in SD like the guy. Many... MANY... want him to go, I assume they would have rather get something for him but a lot want him to go in favor of Rivers.

Deuce, you may have noticed that the players who leave the Saints have precious little to say nice about the FO, coaching staffs, their fellow players, the City or the die-hard fans whether while a Saint or upon leaving. Hard to wish them well when they're flipping us off.

kelly, had the same idea as you only i chose the miami forum...........
and believe me, not a lot of happy campers.................. when they learned of the trade however, it was the sour grapes route....... i was following the board closely before brees signed with us and so many were so certain brees would sign, it was joysville that quickly became crapsville when they learned different. it just goes to show, you never know.................smitty |
