However we ARE still at an advantage because it's still more expensive to trade to #1 than it is to #2, and it's been highly publicized that the Texans will take Bush anyways. We are the wild card, where Houston will just be trying to act like one.

Gold, I agree with you, in the end, I don't think we can lose with the position we're in. Stay put or trade down, we're going to get a player who should be able to come in, start right away, and have an immediate impact. We're going to improve our team, but with the signing of Brees I'd like to see us trade down (unless Bush is there) to get more picks and all I'm saying is that it may not be as easy as we think.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Jets and Redskins break off talks for tr
the eli trade was this-
move up from #4 to #1 (rivers for manning) FOR a 3rd rounder that year #65 and 1st and 5th in 2005 the standard for trade calculation is that a pick next year is worth one round lower than one this year. so, a #1 would be the same as a #2 this year. so essentially it would have been the same as getting the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th in the same year. that would be just about on track to what the charts show for pick value. a little cheap for NY if anything. that is probably due to the pressure of eli saying no way to SD. so, to move one or two spots for TN or NYJ expecting a 2nd & 3rd or a 2nd this year and another 2nd 2007 would be about par. the X factor in this equation is supply and demand. whereas people knew sd was in essence stuck with eli, that is not the case here. leinart would not be stuck with the saints even if they did pick him- thus brees deal realistically being only for one or two yrs. the thought of having the franchise qb for the future you want one or two spots away has to create tremendous tension to move up: competition! anyhoo, i can't come up with anything but good scenarios. no trade? then you have a LT for 10 years or THE monster defensive player of the draft. |

LK, or someone jumps past us to #1 and takes Leinart & we're stuck with Bush.... Boo Hoo.

You don't think a 2 RB attack like KC or Denver would be a good thing? Plus Duece IS coming off an injury.

the same thing you did with Williams when drafting Deuce. kinda like trading in for a newer model. bush has great hands too btw. nice in the slot. a havoc causing player anywhere.
i'm not forwarding that as a plan but if he was handed over it would be hard to turn down. what if TN leaps to #1, you don't think HOU (then at #3) or NYJ wouldn't want Bush? in a, heehee, new york second. |

LK, exactly. It's still ANOTHER barganing chip if we DO want to trade down. We really can't lose in this year's draft. Pick up Leinart, Bush, Williams, Furguson, or Hawk and you've got a franchise player. I'm amzingly happy with the team and what they've done at this point.
