About this time last year, I was a big time McMahon fan. At this time I do not think he would be an upgrade to either Bouman or McPherson. With that said, the Saints still need a backup QB. With the available QB's going quick, I have one last name to throw out there. How about Jeff George being the backup to Drew Brees? I think Jeff George could provide very necessary leadership, and be a true team player in a backup roll. I know, the dude was a team killer before, but I think he is humbled and wants back into the NFL in a bad way. Jeff George deserves the chance to play in the NFL again. I think the Saints could benefit from him greatly. The stuff that happened with George was 10 years ago. I say give the guy a chance. He would be much better than most of the Saints recent backup QB's...

Isn't George retired, if not he should be, the guy is over the hill when it comes to being a QB in the NFL.

I'm not big on Harrington at all, almost as bad as Brooks but If I had the choice between him and Bouman I'd take Joey.

Could Joey be a totally better player on another team?, I don't think so, the guy is missing something that is needed to be successful in the NFL, he doesn't make as many dumb mistakes as Brooks did so that's a plus.

Wasn't Joey just thrown to the wolves in Detroit? If he were given the opportunity to come off the bench instead of having that constant win win pressure on him, I think he would do better, but that fellow readers is only one man's opinion.

Think about this, Brooks hasn't signed yet with anyone, Joey hasn't either, this tells me that some teams who need a QB are a little worried to hurry up and sign him.
Again, I'd take him over Bouman in a heartbeat. |

A veteran backup is defintiely needed. I have posted threads about the need to move Bouman. Last year was the biggest opportunity of his career, he threw more passes than he did in the previous eight years of his career. He stunk bad, no matter how terrible the team was around him. He has looked awful in preseason games since he arrived here also.
Harrington will cost too much. I have read too many reports of his personality and ego being locker room cancer as welll. We have had enough of that. McMahon is a viable option. Among the FA Qb's left I would consider Griese, Banks, and Maddox to also be good #2 guys. I t would be nice to hear some QB names being mentioned as coming to town for a look see. Maybe Payton hasn't got around to reviewing game film of Bouman yet. It shouldn't take much to put out a call for someone else |
