Packers | Team comments on Walker's status
Fri, 10 Mar 2006 13:58:22 -0800 Updating ongoing reports, Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson, in a statement released by the team, said, "During his time as a Green Bay Packer, Javon Walker has been well thought of by everyone here. I like Javon, certainly as a person and as a player. That said, Javon is under contract, which he signed as a 2002 first-round draft choice. That contract is governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which was negotiated between the National Football League and the National Football League Players' Association, and we expect him to honor it." Thompson added he does not anticipate the team making any concessions in the matter and they will not make any further comments on the situation. Walker, as reported, wants to be traded to another team and has threatened retiring rather than playing for Green Bay again |

Hey LK, how many points is Walker worth if we only got Green Bay's first and second round picks with him? |

Aargh, They're more like ... guidelines. I'm open to a Walker deal, but our WRs are going to get pretty crowded already. Devery is going to have a breakout year and Chase "the 6 million dollar man" Lyman is going to be a rampaging beast. |
Ok, I figured out the numbers. The second overall pick is worth 2600 points. If we were to get green Bay's first and second round pick this year, that would only equal 2230 points. That means Walker is worth 370 points, which equals to the 53rd pick in the draft. Of course, that 2600 point total is for an average year. In my opinion the second pick is worth more than that this year. This year I believe it will be worth a normal years No. 1 overall pick, which would be 3000 points. This would then make Walker worth 770 points, which is between the 22nd and the 23rd pick. Walker has only had one good season. And he missed last season with an injury. There is no way he is worth a first-round pick.

Please please please please please let's not sign yet ANOTHER severely injured FA who's only got ONE year of decent play. How many injured WR's does this team need to carry anyway?

Culpeper was traded for a second round pick. Two years ago, TO was traded for a second round pick. Last off season, both Seattle and Indianapolis were only asking for second round picks for both Alexander and James. Those guys have had consistent success. If you're going to ask me if a wide receiver that has only had one good season, no matter how much upside he has, is worth a first or second round pick, then I'm going to have to say no. Agree to disagree
