we have tod, and amac and i'm sure they have been checked out.... we have brees, and if all goes well, could be the foundation......... but, as many of you are concerned with the healing of brees, and possibly the f.o. as well, could they be thinking leinart? or possibly dropping lower, say, 5,6,7,8,9,10 and getting cutler or young? i have to say, the thought keeps entering my mind............ opinions? smitty |

RE: ref. draft-----------just a thought..............
I think that we should keep thinking this to use as trade bait. Teams who are willing to trade up for Leinart might break the bank if we are legitimately considering him. I honestly don't think we should take a QB in the draft, and here's why. I believe that Brees is going to be healthy and ready to go for the season. However, even if he doesn't, I believe, as Payton himself said, that they are probably going to sign a veteran backup QB. So, after this happens, we'll have Brees as our starter. He's a very good QB, and if he stays healthy, he can be our QB for many years. However, if he happened to go down, we'd still have our backup QB waiting in the wings, and in case of an extreme injury problem, we can always put AMac in. Besides, we have too many other holes for us to use our first pick on a QB. Also, if Brees does get injured, and we don't want to keep him, I believe that his contract is reallt structured like a one year deal so we could release him after the season.

deuce from what i understand this could be only a one year deal for the guy. i had said there is no promise we don't take a qb. if noone trades with us and the titans are thinking he is theirs because we will take a different position then maybe we should take the guy and seee how it plays out. see if we could get a deal when the titans are on the clock. if that is their guy and we haven't heard anything by then then maybe we should pick him and trade after

I understand spk, but taking a one year chance on Leinart would make us lose out on a 5 or 6 year chance on Brick/Hawk...

absolutely correct. i didn't say it was what i hoped they would do only a possibility. of course they wouldn't even keep matt it would mean we draft matt and then trade with the titans when they are on the clock because maybe they thought matt would be there and then we got him. so now they are saying this is the guy we wanted let's call n.o. then we get our guy an an extra pick. that is if noone else wants to trade with us

RE: ref. draft-----------just a thought..............
I'm still set that we are drafting Leinart... so it would not surprise me at all. All this talk about telegraphing what we want to do in the draft... I don't think we are. When I look at Brees contract, I see one year here and that's it. I've probably said that a million times already... I sound like a broken record. Just because we signed a quarterback doesn't mean we're going to take D'Brick... there are plenty of options and who know what we'll do. With the 2nd pick in the draft, we're holding the all the cards... and Leinart is still one of them along with D'Brick, Hawk, etc. Guess we'll find out on draft day.

I think if we look at another QB in the draft it will be Omar Jacobs in the second round, especially if we can get an extra second rounder. Did anyone know that he scored 3 points higher than Leinart on the Wonderlic? He scored a 38.
