Q and A with Saints coach Sean Payton
The New Orleans Saints begin their first minicamp Friday under new head coach Sean Payton. Payton talks about the team's offseason leading into the minicamp.
Q: After seeing the team in offseason conditioning, is the team about what you expected or better or worse? A: "It's outstanding. I'm excited about it. Ninety-eight percent of our team we have had in starting with the weights and the running. I think they understand where you start a foundation for your upcoming minicamps and your upcoming season. It's vital for us to be successful. The time you spend in the offseason as a team, I think is probably a little bit underrated." Q: Is there a buy-in time for players to buy in to what you want to do? A: "I think you're always in the business of selling, as a coach. I think the player wants to improve. I think the player wants discipline. I think the player wants to get better. If the player feels like his position coach or head coach is going to help him do those things, I think naturally he's is excited about it. I think we're starting new and I think our players are having a chance to not only meet myself but our assistant coaches and really get a lay of the land for what they can expect in the upcoming year and years to come." Q: When you talk about starting new, did you look at tapes of last year? A: "I looked at the whole season. In some cases, I went back two years just to look at players who maybe played more two years ago. I think you want to make sure that you go in and look at the tape, but at the same time you want to make sure that you wipe the slate clean and go by what you see and try to make sure that we get as much exposure to this current team, this current roster. The more we can familiarize ourselves that way, the easier it would be for us to make decisions in regard to the draft and free agency. Q: Are there specific positions that need to be addressed, either through the draft or free agency? A: "We have made some decisions already. We'll continue to do that. I wouldn't be specific as to say this position. I would say that we'll continue to move forward and try to do what's best for our team and organization." http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/...32/1001/SPORTS |

RE: Q and A with Saints coach Sean Payton
Thanks Tigger for the post..
Payton was a guy I wanted to coach the Saints, I don't know a lot about him except for article I've read but already I love what I see and hear of him, this guy has a plan it seems, who knows for sure if it will work or not but I think he has a great shot at turning us around for the better. |
