this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I see some CBs cut and the dime package and maybe the nickle to be filled with safeties. At least the special teams will get a huge boost...

RE: Cowboys lose safety to Saints
I live in Dallas, so I've seen this guy at several Cowboys games. He isn't a starting safety, but is an absolute beast on special teams. He is like a heat-seeking missle. This is a very good boost for special teams!!!
-He's actually my buddy's favorite Cowboy. |

RE: Cowboys lose safety to Saints
The way things are going, we should have Roy Williams in about 3 years. He would match all of our safetys and ex-cowboys. Not that i'm complaining

RE: Cowboys lose safety to Saints
I think logically right now, it would seem like the best lineup would be MM and Dwight at the corners, and Bullocks and Bellamy at the safeties. However, I just don't know if moving Dwight to the corner is even going to happen. I haven't heard anything coming out of mini-camps about the move; which I think would be pretty newsworthy. I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a CB in the draft that we expect to start on Week 1.

Another Safety Expected to Sign
RFA Keith Davis, Dallas
Safety Keith Davis is expected to sign an offer sheet with the New Orleans Saints by Tuesday, giving the Cowboys seven days to either match the deal or let last year's starting free safety walk without compensation - just as they did last week with offensive tackle Torrin Tucker, who signed with Tampa Bay. While the Cowboys likely have been looking for an upgrade at starting free safety, they still valued Davis, who not only started 15 games last year, but arguably is the team's top special teams player. In fact, Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said as much during the 2004 season, when Davis finished second on the team with 21 special teams tackles and was starting to command double-team attention when covering kicks. http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cf...3315CB1ED453EF I guess Dwight Smith will have to go to corner LOL |

can't say that I know a lot about him so I saw what Dallas message boards had to say-
--Potentially another player lost without any compensation. Parcells really likes Davis on special teams, even to the point of losing sleep wether playing him at safety would negatively affect kick off coverage. With the dirth at safety already, I'd be surprised if he walks, especially with no compentation. Bummed too, I like what he brought to the game. --You know what Silver, they will match that offer because Davis is a very good special teams player, maybe their best and Parcells loves those type of guys. I think they would pay that just for him playing special teams alone, He's that good. I would be surprised if they let him walk. $722,000 is not a lot, especially when they have plenty under the cap. and from scout.com: S Keith Davis – He’s Bill Parcells special teams’ ace, and a work in progress at the free safety position. In all, he started 15 games at free safety and led the team with 16 special teams tackles. He may not be the best compliment to SS Roy Williams, but he’s proven to be a capable back up if the Cowboys elect to draft or sign a better coverage safety this offseason. Davis should be back with the team in 2006. |
