this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Given the pre-draft psoturing about us drafting Mario Williams, I'm beginning to wonder if the Saints won't consider moving Grant to DT alongside Sully. This would give us a potential starting DL of Will Smith, Grant, Sully and Super Mario ...

Could Charles Grant be moved to DT ???
Given the pre-draft psoturing about us drafting Mario Williams, I'm beginning to wonder if the Saints won't consider moving Grant to DT alongside Sully. This would give us a potential starting DL of Will Smith, Grant, Sully and Super Mario ... How many Olines in the league wanna face THAT on a regular basis ??? Just a passing thought, yall ... Any comments ???

No, BAAAAADDDD idea. Charles Grant is a damn good DE. If we want a DT, draft one. Not draft a DE and move another DE to DT. Yuck. Charles Grant playing DT on passing downs last year was a bad idea. I remember last year before we franchised Howard, he said he HATED playing DE cause it is much more taxing on a player who was always a DE. I could see Grant feeling the same way. I pray to God we don't try anything like this.

No, No, No.
Grant needs to stay on the outside. He is already quick and dominant at 280+ lbs. Asking him to gain weight in order to not get beat around by double-teams isn't fair and would kill an asset before we even started. But, If we did get Mario and ask him to anchor the middle, that might work. He's already big, has the frame to grow a bit more and is tall so he can get that John Henderson-style smackdown for the interior O-line. Only way I say we draft him. They also need to start working on an extension for Grant ASAP. |

No I don't like the idea. I hope they leave will enough along. I would hate to see Grant get pissed over a move that just won't work.
