this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Defensively, we would upgrade by getting Williams, a freak such as Peppers. So, how many sacks does Williams have next year, since you are able to see in the future? It was also said Kijana Carter was the next Eric ...

I'm not totally in love with Williams unless we get stuck at #2. At #2 Williams is probably the BPA (certainly open to debate, just my take). At any rate, it doesn't seem crazy to me to get either a quality player or a 1st or 2nd round pick in exchange for Grant who can be a productive pass rusher. .02 and the 21 sacks really impressed me. |

This trade doesn't make sense to me. By doing this trade we create another need on our team (DE) while not filling another (we don't need anymore wr's). Sure, Walker would be an upgrade at wr and Mario has so much upside, but lets just say we do this trade and take Mario at 2, we still have the same holes to fill and now we have to wait to the 2nd round to fill them. Grant/Smith is one of the better DE combos in the league, why create another hole on our team? Look to trade down with the jets, get their 2 first rounders and another pick in the middle of the draft and fill our needs on the o-line, dt, lb, and at corner.

it would just be dumb to thing mario would do any better the grant at de, this kids hasn't played a down in the nfl and he is already the next julis peppers, rather have a sloid already battle tested de then so a risking kid coming out of a weak football conference

Walker an elite player? Come on now that's a stretch... he had one good year and spent the year after that on IR. Pass.

While I'm not in favor of Grant for Walker, hypothetically speaking, if Mario was our guy, I would say deal Grant. The trade I came up with was Grant and #2 to the Jets for their 2 first rounders, their 2nd round pick (more realistically their 3rd rounder), and the Jets first rounder next year. I don't know if the Jets would do this but what to you guys think? Note: Remember this is assuming our FO is stuck on Mario, I'm personally in favor of keeping Grant and Smith at DE and trading down for Hawk or Brick.

Deja Vu all over again as the saying goes....
We don't know what the team has in store for Grant. However if they don't see him in the team's future next year, then it would behoove us to get something for him and learn from the Howard debacle. Howard was basically ineffective for this year we had him franchised and didn't want to be here. If they are getting this same vibe from Grant, then pull the trigger no doubt. Walker may or may not be a stud, but he's far better than letting someone walk for nothing again. |

why trade a proven top 10 DE for anything less than someone of equal caliber. Walker certainly isn't a top 10 receiver, and Williams will take time to develop. I'm with everyone that thinks this is a profoundly stupid idea.
