Davis: 'I've said all along I want to stay in Dallas'
The Saints still might be in the market for a defensive back.
The Dallas Cowboys have matched the offer sheet free agent safety Keith Davis signed with the Saints last week, meaning Dallas will retain Davis' services. Davis, in his fourth year, will receive a $1.2 million roster bonus and a base salary of $825,000 this season. The two-year contract is worth about $3 million, according to the Cowboys' Web site. "I've said all along I want to stay in Dallas," Davis told DallasCowboys.com. "Dallas is home. It's always been my home, and it will always be home." The Saints had no comment Monday. Davis had received the minimum $721,600 restricted free agent tender from the Cowboys in February, which secured the team's right of first refusal. Davis started 15 games for Dallas last season but made bigger contributions to the Cowboys on special teams. In New Orleans, he would have joined a group of safeties that included returning starters Dwight Smith and Josh Bullocks, as well as two returning veterans Jay Bellamy and Steve Gleason. The Saints also obtained Bryan Scott from the Atlanta Falcons in a trade for tackle Wayne Gandy. NOTE: The Saints lost one of their unrestricted free agents when the San Francisco 49ers signed linebacker T.J. Slaughter to a contract. Length and terms were not disclosed. http://www.nola.com/sports/t-p/index...4036167660.xml |
