49ers | First-round pick acquired from Broncos
Wed, 19 Apr 2006 09:39:46 -0700

The Denver Broncos have announced the team has acquired a second-round pick (No. 37 overall) and a third-round pick (No. 68) in the 2006 NFL Draft from the San Francisco 49ers. In exchange for the picks, Denver sends San Francisco one of their two first-round picks (No. 22 overall).

If the Texans don't take Bush, hopefully they give those picks to us for him, plus a treasure or two for next year. Then maybe Hawk falls to us at 6. Me likey.

Whodi, do you think the 49ers would want to trade up all that way to get Bush?

Well, he was Alex Smith's high school teammate, and he is from Cali. The 49ers have NO marquis names on their team right now. Reggie Bush brings that to them. Their RBs are suspect as well. As long as the 49ers have been existence, they have seemed to always have an offensive star of some sort. Now they don't. Bush brings the fans back tot hem, and having him in Cali, grows their fan base. They may not want him, but I can see reasons why they would.

And I agree with you, if we are gonna get nothing to trade down, i'd take their two firsts, and as I added, some treasure for next year, maybe a two and three. It would be better than getting nothing at all. Plus, if necessary, we could trade back from 22 and get more picks for the second and third round. Or just simply take a very good player right there. It all depends on what we are offered IMO.

While i am not disagreeing with anyone, i cant understand the 49ers philosophy here. Now all they have are 2 picks on the first day. Why would they give up their first day of the draft to move up to take someone that may or may not be there? This move may have made sense on draft day, but i dont understand it right now. They are far and away the least talented team in the league and you would think they would want to get as many new players as possible. Oh well, so goes the saga of the 49ers.

I have to agree with everything you said there. I don't think it makes any sense what the 49ers just did. BUT, if they felt they didn't have enough ammo to get Bush, maybe they are trying to acquire it. Two firsts are worth more than a first, second, and third. But if they aren't trying to move up for a player, I can not understand it at all. That's the only reason I think they may be targeting Bush.

maybe its b/c they have so many holes to fill that it doesnt matter how many picks they have it still wouldnt help so they decided to get high picks to get some "better" talent into their roster...taking quality over quantity...

Well, it also helps to assure me that we arent the most poorly run franchise in the league. If they do decide to move up again, they have mortgaged this draft and more than likely, their next draft, for one player. Thats unheard of...wait...where have i seen this before?
