this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Dfense wins championships. I don't care who we draft as long as it is a stud on defense early and often....

I think taking a RT in the second round, 4th round...or if we pick up a 3rd rounder...that would be fine...our division is LOADED with quality pass rushers so its going to be a week in week out thing where we fact a dominant pass rusher...but right tackles can be found in later rounds...its happens all the time...draft someone to bring in and push Stinchcomb and let the best man win...competetion never hurt no one. Winston in the second...or someone later on like Whitworth, Trueblood, Guy Whimper...all guys who played the left side in college and protected their QB's blind side...they can play the right side in the NFL and add depth and youth to the line.

Now THAT I can get on board with. We are talking about RT here. I don't mind a later round tackle, hell, I ain't gonna cry if we take D'Brick, but this one two O-line crap is just foolish.

To turn your question around: Why do you think he can play? What have you EVER heard about him that makes you comfortable with him in the starting lineup? |

I'm having a hard time understanding why so little value is being placed on the RT position that some of y'all feel like we can just plug anyone in there. Look in our own division. Other teams aren't putting crappy players at the opposite DE position.
Everyone was happy with Brown last year at RT. He wasn't go against scrubs. |

But I am fully on board with JimBone's plan, a second round or later RT to come in compete would be just fine with me. If Peppers is on the right, then we DOMINATE the Panthers to the left behind Jamaal. We also have a smart QB who will get rid of the ball, and not hold on to it while he does the Saturday Night Fever disco spin into a defender.

I didn't remember him about to beat out Gandy, though. I remember hearing he had improved, though. But I'm not comfortable with going in to the season with him at RT at this point. I'd like to see the position addressed, some competition created, and see if he can beat someone out. |

If you think NE and Pittsburgh had dominating lines, the you should be happy with ANY linemen we take in the draft, if it's only one, cause then our lines would be about the same as theirs. Pittsburgh took a first round tackle in 2002 named Kendall Simmons. Ever heard of him? He's playing RG now. Last first round tackle they took before that was in 1996. He isn't on the team. Their starting RT is Max Starks, taken in the third round in 2004. Their starting LT was Marvel Smith, taken 7 years ago in the second round. So a Superbowl winning team has a first round tackle playing G, a 3rd round RT and a 2nd round LT. But that won't work for us. |
