Why not take Hawk at #2?

Hey guys, I know everyone thinks that drafting Hawk at #2 is a mistake. But, if we can't get value for the pick. Why Not? Our linebackers from last year were all horrible except for Buckholdt. The veterans we signed in the offseason were adequate for the short term, but they are not game changers. They are vets we took fliers on hoping we strike gold like New England did in 2001. If you look at the recent LB's that slid in the draft, the same arguments were being made then about not taking linebackers so high. Why not be ahead of the curve for once and see that linebackers are coming back into vogue. (like the 80's)

Hawk is much better than Williams, period. He is a starter from day one and establishes an identity for the defense immediately. Above all, he has never been called "lazy" or accused of taking plays "off". He will be a stud in this leauge immediately. If you don't stop the run and force teams into passing situations, does it really matter how fast someone can get to the QB?

It's time we went back to our roots as an organization and rebuild the defense into a feared unit.

RE: Why not take Hawk at #2?

He's ok, but he's no Chad Greenway. #2 is too much for a guy who's basically interchangable.

You know, even if he is not a "stud" right away, he does bring the biggest upgrade to our team. I know a lot of you like Bockwoldt, probably because he was a 7th round pick that turned into something...and some of you probably like him because he is white. I think adding Hawk and sitting Bockwoldt is a HUGE improvement for the Saints. I dont think there is another team in the league that Bockwoldt would start for. We have had the worst LB corp in the league for years and it cannot be ignored when you have a talent like Hawk available for the taking.

Aaaaaayyyyyy!!

I don't get the "he's good enough to take at 4, but not 2" argument. We NEED a play making LB way more than another DE. Period.

So what if he asks for a little bit more money because he went second over fourth. What are we saving for? To choose high in the next draft?

Quit trying to steal the man's award. It's gone already.

Just for the irony, I will hand out a second award, to you. And a third to LSU Jeremy, cause I have been trying to make the same point for a while, how is he okay at 4, but a reach at 2? Hell, awards all around.

Thanks...but on a different note...as the draft gets closer, i figured i would be getting more excited about it...but as it turns out, i am starting to get worried because i dont think the Saints are going to do the right thing...if someone could please lend a hand in making me feel like its going to be a good day...i would appreciate it.

Guys, there is still so many things that could happen over the next few days that could make all of this irrelevant. I just think that if it comes down to it, and we don't get an offer that would allow us to still get our man, why not just do it and go on down the road.

By the way, it's an honor to get the post of the day.
