spkb...

They will call, and often.

Absolutely. We have to take him if we are making the pick. I think some teams (jets included) may think we are bluffing but taking him off the board is what needs to happen by pick 2 whether we trade down or we make the pick.

Worst case scenario then is us being stuck with Bush, which doesnt exactly suck.

BiggPoppaFro4 04-28-2006 09:21 PM

I couldn't get behind that idea with Leinart, but I can actually see it with Bush. One scenario I see is we take Bush, GB takes Hawk, we trade guys and get Walker, plus an extra pick or two.

Hmm...this is a nice idea.

spkb25 04-28-2006 09:23 PM

smyce we need one of their thirds too as far as the jets

JimBone 04-28-2006 09:24 PM

The Saints will get calls...but lets face it, no one is going to pay a ransom for him...if that was the case, someone would have offered it to the Texans. They would have loved to trade down but no one offered what they wanted. What makes you think that will change? If the Jets call, take 4, 29, 35, and next years number 2...same thing with the 49ers...if not, take Reggie Bush hands down and get to work on getting the ball in his hands...and then apologize to Aaron Stecker and Michael Lewis because they are now out of a job.

It's harder to trade up to the number 1 pick than it is to trade to the number 2. All teams(except the '99 Saints) live by that point chart that is used to assign value to draft picks.

The Jets don't even want to give up their third rounder, so no way that they would give us their second.

If they don't want to pay up lets take Reggie. I'm tired of teams thinking they can take us for a joke and that we will just lean over and take it.

Euphoria 04-28-2006 09:34 PM

yes me too...

BiggPoppaFro4 04-28-2006 09:38 PM

I read a Jets fans say "3rd this year = 2nd rnd next year....give it to them and be done with it"...not bad, I can go with that.

Does this mean we are still in the race, or percieved race, for Walker?

Yup. Exactly right.

Not exactly. Teams are still using the point system with respect to the #2 slot, as opposed to the #1 slot. So we have slightly lower value for our slot than the #1 spot. There are still a very limited number of teams that have the firepower to move up, unless future draft picks are on the table, which i haven't heard anything about yet.

Um, yes exactly. Reggie Bush IS the number one pick, even in the two slot. The biggest prospect to come out in forever. The chart is a GUIDE, it isn't written in stone. The value of Bush at number two is as if it was a number one. Players guide the chart, the chart doesn't guide the players.

spkb25 04-28-2006 09:51 PM

jim bone all we need is the jets 4,29,71. thats it. we dont need their second or another second next year. we could if so go with their 4,29, and comp pick or the last pick of the third round. that should mean they give us soething next year too like a 4rth or 5th. that even it up though

BlackandBlue 04-28-2006 09:52 PM

man, i really want to keep this kid. too many needs. :(

Euphoria 04-28-2006 09:52 PM

it all depends what team has bush as number one and what are they willing to give up for him...

spkb25 04-28-2006 09:56 PM

i just found out that that we can't take the jets comp pick. my bad foir saying that.

i just heard on espn news that we told the bush camp we will take him with the number 2 pick!!!

The Jets have him at the top for sure...according to ESPNews. They are trying to lowball us by just offering the #4 and #29. Screw them and lets pick Reggie. Maybe then they'll open their eyes and know we mean business. If they still don't budge and no one else will offer us anything for him, then were just stuck with Reggie Bush, which as someone else said, doesn't exactly suck.

BiggPoppaFro4 04-28-2006 09:59 PM

dammit.

Cassady37 04-28-2006 10:18 PM

....of course as shrewd as the new staff seems to be they would know that espn news would report that we were talking to the Bush camp. Which means the teams that thought we were bluffing just might get nervous right about now, damn I'm excited!! This is the first time I have seen everyone on this forum united in the same giddy glow!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!

deucerulez 04-28-2006 10:20 PM

Saintsfan66 04-28-2006 10:54 PM

OMG, I just heard the news.. OMG!!! YES!! YES!!! Thank you god! WHOOO!! HAHAHA! Who Dat! Who DAt! Who Dat said they gonna beat them Saints!

smyce 04-28-2006 10:55 PM

This is the best draft opportunity for the Saints in a long while. We should make our team tremendously better tomorrow!

AllSaints 04-28-2006 10:58 PM

I think i just broke my hand i was so excited i just hit the computer desk.......... holy crap what are the texans thinking......... man wow so its all on us what do we do i cant take it i am not going to sleep cant wont ..... crap my hand hurts................

TheDeuce 04-28-2006 11:02 PM

Ok, let me see if I can get this one right:

W-I-N, W-I-N S-I-T-U-A-T-I-O-N

Is that how you spell it? I think it is. Hole crap. Seriously folks. Worst case scenario right now, we get Reggie Bush. That sounds darn good. Best case scenario, we will be able to pick up a few extra picks and still be able to take our pick of Brick or Hawk. I'm showing my O-face

jnormand 04-28-2006 11:28 PM

Hey guys!!! You aren't going to believe this!!!! The Texans are going to draft Mario! That means we have the option to get Bush or trade down and get a bunch of picks. Why haven't you guys posted anything yet?

LivnaLieTimay 04-28-2006 11:30 PM

Just got out of a movie, saw my phone was blowin up during the movie. When I heard the first voice mail I almost crashed my car I was so excited. REG-GIE, REG-GIE, REG-GIE. We have to sign him!

JimBone 04-29-2006 12:16 AM

I would not trade with the Jets for less than 4, 29, and 35...not for a player like Reggie Bush.

LivnaLieTimay 04-29-2006 12:40 AM

On sportscenter they said that Brees called up Reggie and told him that he understands his dissapointment not being drafted #1 but is very excited about him possibly being his teammate. Reggie reminds me alot of LT and we saw how well Brees and LT worked together. Brees likes to use his RB in the passing game a lot and I get real excited thinking about those 2 guys in our backfield and how many mismatches Reggie creates. Draft this guy!

I heard this too on ESPN. I'm proud of the initiative that Brees shows. Also they said that the plan is to keep the pick and select Bush, but they are entertaining offers. I think they would prefer to trade down, but they WILL take Bush if no suitable offers are on the table.

maximkat 04-29-2006 12:46 AM

I'd like to take the time out to say,

WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Savant 04-29-2006 02:09 AM

This might be the best thing to happen to the Saint's ever.

Euphoria 04-29-2006 02:16 AM

I am still going with hakim dropping the ball.... sorry. This is just one player, we need more. TRADE DOWN...

saintsrule 04-29-2006 03:48 AM

When I first heard it, I was surprised. But the sports shows kept saying that it could happen. The Saints are hopefully going to get great players, maybe starting with Reggie Bush.

ssmitty 04-29-2006 03:58 AM

i wonder if duece has a lump in his throat? smitty

papz 04-29-2006 06:24 AM

Now I'm even more pissed I can't watch the draft... stupid job. I wanted to see someone mortgage their draft for our pick. I can't believe I'm saying this but as much as a Bush fan I am, we need to trade down.

:computer:

Savant 04-29-2006 06:48 AM

We might see some first-borns in the trade offers.

LKelley67 04-29-2006 08:17 AM

:monkey:

sorry I didn't jump in the posts guys. It about brought me to tears. This IS a new era.

:fanclub:

This is a no lose scenario. Keep him or trade him either way. Green Bay would be my destination fo choice. Then it goes, Bush, QB, Brick, and they will no choice but Hawk. There are a multitude of options to get it done- Nick Barnett, Chad Clifton, Javon Walker, picks this year and next. Stay or go with this guy and I'll be happy. 1000% better than the same scenario with Mario Williams. This will be even all the more significant NFL history if Mario has 3 sacks total two years from now.

It's gonna be a fun ride. Check with ya after a pre-draft trade or the pick.

:pink:

LongTimeFan 04-29-2006 08:45 AM

Well I did sleep last night, I told myself that every thang will work out, heard this morning on ESPN that the Saints will pick Bush, the backfield will be like no other if he's indeed back there for the Saints, 2 1/2 hours until the draft begins...

Can you imagine how crazy the fans will be when Bush takes the field for the first time in the Dome.

Houston just continues to help us .

Thank you Texans for the early Christmas present.

JimBone 04-29-2006 08:46 AM

I cant believe how happy we all are...just two days ago we were all fighting over who we should take...now we are family...touching

dwiley21 04-29-2006 08:50 AM

Wow Dreams can come true!!! Tough choices now. I'm still calling to trade, but think of the possibilities with Bush in the backfield. In this NFL one back isn't enough. Teams do need at least two. With Duece softening up the D and Reggie breaking it open... Amazing. Duece is still a great back, but he is coming off a major knee injury, and he wasn't breaking off the long runs like he did early on. Adding such a dynamic player will help open up the offense and give Brees a tomlinson type option. Geaux Saints.
