Boo Williams takes over for Norman Hand
Interviewed on WWL's pre-draft radio coverage, Saints tight ends coach Bob Balcic reported that reserve tight end Boo Williams, in his third season with the Saints, has bulked up to 270 pounds and is bench pressing 400 pounds. Williams is reporting having an excellent offseason. Despite the improvement, Williams is still third on the depth chart behind newly-signed Ernie Conwell and veteran David Sloan.
Williams joined the team weighing in under 230 pounds, and has steadily added the bulk and the technique of the NFL tight end. An oversized wide receiver coming out of Arkansas, Williams was an undrafted free agent in 2001 that joined the team and made an impact as a rookie in a pass-catching tight end role. Last year, behind David Sloan, Williams caught a touchdown in the season opener but struggled to impact games later on. Against the Bengals, Williams dropped a pass over the middle that was a made turn of momentum away from the team. |

Wait a minute. Boo Williams is 270 pounds and benches 400lbs. That might be great. If Boo can block he is in business. And so are we.

I couldn\'t believe it when I read 270. He\'s bigger than most DE\'s now. I agree, if he works on his blocking technique he could pan out. With the exception of a few lapses in concentration he has generally shown great hands, a being related to Brooks, you would think the two could develop chemistry together. We would have three potential TE weapons if he gets his sh&t together.

what in the hell do we need three TE\'s for???????
we run a 3WR base set, that means only one TE on the field and in the I-form (our second most used set) there is only one TE occasionally we run a 2 TE set but not often so who gives a crap if boo is now bigger than his no catching a$$ needs to be did i mention that i never really liked the guy??? |

its called \"depth\"... would u have only 2 tackles on your team? just 1 center? NO!! just cuz we only use a 2 TE set doesnt mean that people dont get injured.... or tired...
that one is just common sense |

With the way Sloan played last year someone has to step up. In all honesty I believe he will rebound with a above averge season and Conwell will be a great addition, but like it was said, a training camp injury to Conwell and Sloan not being able to tie his shoes again and then what do we do, run 3 and 4 WR sets all year and get Mouse Davis as offensive coordinator?
