Matthew Barrows, of the Sacramento Bee, reports the San Francisco 49ers will consider making a bid for former Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks in the July 13 supplemental draft, personnel director Scot McCloughan said Tuesday, May 30. Brooks will hold a workout for pro scouts at the Virginia campus June 22 and is preparing for the event at Competitive Edge Sports, an Atlanta-based outfit run by Chip Smith. Smith said Brooks now weighs 268 pounds, five or so more than his playing weight at Virginia. He also has begun to shed the maturity issues that plagued him at Virginia. Smith said Brooks has recovered from the injuries that cut short his 2005 season and estimates he will run the 40-yard dash in the 4.5-second range.

Terry McCormick, of the Tennessee City Paper, reports Tennessee Titans rookie RB LenDale White (hamstring) will be limited during the team's organized activities in June. "If it was up to me and this was college, I'd probably be out there by now, but they take care of you a lot more up here, and they want to make sure it's a one-time deal," White said. "They don't want me to keep coming back with a hamstring that's pulled. So I'm happy, because I want this to be a one-time deal. I don't like sitting on the sidelines and doing all the rehab. I'd rather be in the action, jumping around in the fire."

I think a 260+lb backer with speed is always a good thing.

That size remind me of old saints linebacker with the last name Johnson.

He's got Kirkland's size for sure. I think he's a big risk so I hope we don't go all out for the guy, but he would be nice to have in the middle. For the past 2 seasons I have suggested that we use Will Smith at MLB on running situations so he could be on the field as a MLB and a DE backing Howard and Grant. You guys didn't even tell me I was stupid or anything (although that was nice).

I think Smith could have helped the run game at MLB while we still had Howard and it would have helped our D. I think Cower or Bellichick would have tried it. No reason to piss in the wind though. I hope we can either go with what we have and pick up a solid MLB from the draft or FA next season or make an intelligent trade to finally fill the spot. Where's Vaughn Johnson? Call the man up

I was a fan of Brooks two years ago...now, i am not so sure...he is saying all the right things now because his future depends on it. I do hope he gets his stuff together because he could be a very good LB in the NFL...thats why i would take a chance but not for anything better than a 5th rounder.
