Saints and Chargers talkin Donnie Edwards?

Back to the Saints: Just for a second ... New Orleans, which needed to sign linebackers Jay Foreman and Tommy Polley on Friday, may be giving some consideration to acquiring Chargers linebacker Donnie Edwards. Edwards played for Saints defensive coach Joe Vitt in Kansas City and Vitt has always been a big supporter of Edwards. The Chargers would like to trade Edwards and safety Hanik Milligan. The Saints and Chargers talked about players who were available on both rosters Monday, and Edwards' name came up prominently.

Give the Chargers 2 safeties for Edwards, just don't trade your only proven deep threat.

RE: Saints and Chargers talkin Donnie Edwards?

okay let see what we got know. Sully trade saved us little more than 400,000 this year and 500,000 + next year and dumps the 2 million+ over the remaining two years of the contract. I think we can afford some new talent. Plus with Bethal I can see Donte or Henderson if not both dumped also.
Donnie Edwards LILB in a 34 D. 6-2, 227 and 100+ tackle guy unhappy with contract offers or lack of is in his final year of his 5yr/18.75 million contract. He wants to be paid among the elites of the game. Interesting read is:
Smith looks to Edwards' future value:

Plus the chicks will dig him: NFL's Sexiest Man? http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5026518
More woman in the the stands and in the bars the better.

The chargers needs? WR is thin. Keenan McCardell is the man guy but is what? almost 35 by now
Set with Eric Parker. But the remainder did little or nothing last year. Donte?Henderson?
They just picked up a Safety from Washinton who has an injury history. Smith.
Trading Edwards make room for another LB. But is Watson a 34 guy. So we have the roster for filling needs with players we are roomered to trade and they have a need for each.
I do not see Donte signing with us next year if Payton keeps pushing him but you never know this may be what he needs. So Henderson and Smith may both fit their needs and cap room is made for this year and next with Edwards, Simmons, and Foreman all in one year deals. (No idea what Polleys deal is. )
I do not see the need.
We have Scott at SLB, Polley at MLB and Simmon at WLB. Polley and Simmons are more of a OLB but performed well at ILB. Both on the field in a 34 D would be great. Foreman is a MLB. Then we have our own Vets. Sounds like the safety position all over again. got to love having to much talent at LB for a change if Edwards does arrive. The Chargers though do not have much to offer at CB and they are in the middle of a major youth movement right now. So Edwards is the only option I see here.
I dump donte or herderson here. I would go with Donte and Watson for Edwards and fourth rounder next year. Alot of cap room freed up in 2007 with Sully and Watson gone alone with all the one year contracts ending. picking up a 4 would be great next year. At least we got something for Donte unlike what happened with Bentley.

RE: Saints and Chargers talkin Donnie Edwards?

Bethal is our new deep threat. remember he came from a very talented WR group in NE. Sure he was not one the field last year but if Donte was on the team he would not have been on the field either. Dropped passes are not allowed in the Big Bill camp. Bethal is another Donte. It is an even swap. It is so hard to get it through everyones head that our WR were not that great over the past 4 years. I know what every one is going to say, but AB is not to blame for all the plays. Ernie is in the same Boat. If Zach drops as many as he did last year he will be out the door. Payton is a QB coach. He knows what passes were catchable and which ones were the QB fault. Bye bye AB. That is why we have so many WR in camp.

Zach made some tough grabs last year, he will be just fine now that the passes will have some touch and not be thrown 200 MPH , Just made me sick to see AB on a swing play throw the ball so hard duece couldnt get a grip on it and he would be wide open too. just dont get it... IM FLABERGASTED.

That is why he is not on the block. Payton could see that. But Donte and Henderson can not hide behind that
