Do you think Fred McAfee will make this year's team?
I certainly hope so...even at the age of 37 I believe he can be a key contributor to this team. If he doesn't make the team, I hope the offer him an opportunity to be an assistant coach like the Mavericks did with Avery Johnson. I think that one day McAfee could be an outstanding special teams coach. Your thoughts?

RE: Do you think Fred McAfee will make this year
If he does make the team this year, I'd see it as his last. He may be there to be a veteran influence to some of the younger guys. "Fast Freddie" has always been a class act.

RE: Do you think Fred McAfee will make this year
Freddy nows his place and has always excelled at it. I do not see that void being filled this year unless a veteran safty is up to the challenge, I do not see a gunner on the roster that can replace him. he should retire with the same class he plays with. end of the season fairwells.

It really depends on how Sean Payton wants to fill his roster. (I will assume no one gets hurt or traded which is not very likely). As it stands now, Fred would probably make it as a 5th RB since hybrid Reggie Bush would be considered the #2 RB, and #4 WR. Since Bush can play two spots, the WR spot will probably have only 5 final roster spots. Where it gets sticky is does Sean Payton want to keep more than 3 TE's or have a backup FB in the mix. If Payton wants to keep 4 TE's, or 2 FB's, then Freddie is in trouble just based on the numbers game. Another possibility is that big RB Joseph could be ready to contribute.
If I was a betting man, I would put my money on Fred making the team. Just gut instinct... |
