Cowboys | Q. Butler released
Wed, 23 Aug 2006 11:35:53 -0700

Mickey Spagnola, of DallasCowboys.com, reports the Dallas Cowboys have released CB Quincy Butler.

Quincy Butler

COLLEGE POS. HT. WT. PICKED BY ROUND/
OVERALL

TCU CB 6-1 190 /

Butler is still learning the cornerback position and needs to develop his skills in single coverage. He knows how to react well in a zone, and he could slide into the safety spot at the next level if scouts think he's too raw to be a cornerback.
http://www.msnbc.com/modules/sports/...p?playerid=229

Position: CB
Class: Sr
School: TCU
Conference: Mountain West
Ht., Wt.: 6-0.5, 190
40 Time: 4.55
Grading System

BIO: Junior college transfer who immediately moved into the starting lineup at TCU. All-Conference selection as a senior after totaling 53/5/8.

POSITIVES: Athletic defensive back with solid ball skills. Effective facing the quarterback and quick breaking to the throw. Fluid flipping his hips and loses nothing in transition turning to run with receivers. Aggressive, supports the run and works well with safeties. Effective pedaling in reverse and quickly gets his head back around, finding the ball.

NEGATIVES: Quick out of his backpedal and prefers to side shuffle. Lacks the great recovery speed. Does not display a decisive move to the ball and gives up positioning to opponents.

ANALYSIS: A zone cornerback with potential at safety, Butler has displayed progress the past two seasons and is a solid developmental prospect.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

Cowboys | Saldi released
Wed, 23 Aug 2006 11:34:51 -0700

Mickey Spagnola, of DallasCowboys.com, reports the Dallas Cowboys have released LB John Saldi.

Position: OLB Number: 05
School: Texas Tech Height: 6'5
Status: Declared Weight: 239

This is a outside linebacker that is very intriguing athletically speaking, he has all the measurables you look for in a player at his position
What is so frustrating is to see him on the field and show all the characteristics of a excellent athlete but not show the instincts nor the aggressiveness needed for even the collegiate level
His agility and lateral hip movement from side to side for a player of his size is rare, he even has the ability to drop in pass coverage pretty well, he just plays the game too passively
I guess I am hoping for the light to come on for this player, and he develops and works on his technique & film study, along with becoming a more aggressive player on the field, I will look for his progress and followup on evaluating him

Cowboys | Peterman released
Wed, 23 Aug 2006 11:32:13 -0700

Mickey Spagnola, of DallasCowboys.com, reports the Dallas Cowboys have released OT Stephen Peterman.

OVERVIEW
Peterman was the anchor on an LSU offensive line that returned four starters in 2003 … He moved to right guard during the spring and played there in 2003 after starting 25 games over the previous two seasons at left guard … He is a big and strong player who plays with a great deal of intensity … Tough as nails competitor who is relentless, he was called the "the heart and soul of the LSU line" by the team's coaching staff … A throwback player who thrives in the trenches, he is a converted tight end, who has also played on the defensive side of the football during his career with the Tigers … He blocks with equal effectiveness on running or passing situations … Appeared in 48 games for the Tigers, starting 35 times.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a barrel chest and thick, muscular arms … Has adequate initial quickness to gain position coming off the snap … Powerful drive blocker that will strike with good force and pop … Mauler-type for the ground game who can get low to base block and root out the defensive tackle … Plays with an aggressive nature, showing a very physical hand jolt on the short pull to take defenders down … Can easily anchor vs. the defensive tackle and looks to help when uncovered … Can strike and get movement on a defender in his initial burst … Uses his hands with great efficiency to get under the defender, locking on with force to sustain … Will not hesitate to use "any means possible" to take down his man … Has the anchor and wide leg base needed to defeat stunts and the bull rush … Very hard worker in the weight room who leads by example.
Negatives: Needs to be monitored, as he tends to get overweight (his large mid-section prevents him from generating lateral agility) … Loses balance and does not sustain well when asked to block on the move (much better at the line of scrimmage) … Has limited body control working in space (frequently on the ground in attempts to get to the second level) … Has limited lateral slide ability, which causes him to get beaten by defenders coming off the edge … Borderline student who needs to be pushed … Looks a step too slow when asked to pull on sweeps, but stays low in his pads and compensates with a very punishing hand punch … While he generally gets away with his over-aggressiveness, his tactics have resulted in costly penalties (nine in 2003).

AGILITY TESTS
5.38 in the 40-yard dash … 405-pound bench press … 550-pound squat … 275-pound power clean … 21-inch vertical jump … 7-foot-5 broad jump … 32½-inch arm length … 10-inch hands … Right-handed

We know the kid but how is the knee? sat out 2005 and had it rebuilt.

One of the four in there was Peterman. Had to do a double-take. The guy could move. He had pretty good feet. Moved laterally really well. Was really quick. Seemed to have more agility than I ever imagined.

"That's me, that's how I was before (the injury)," said Peterman, reminding of how he tore two of the right knee's three major ligaments (ACL and MCL) that final preseason game of what was supposed to be his rookie year. "For a while there, it was hard on my knee"

Titans | Holt released
Wed, 23 Aug 2006 10:47:10 -0700

Jim Wyatt, David Boclair and Paul Kuharsky, of the Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans released CB Cedric Holt Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Position: CB Number: 13
School: North Carolina Height: 5'11
Status: Declared Weight: 190

He is a player at the cornerback position who shows good ball skills
He is a thinly built athlete who moves fluidly around the field, who possesses quick and fluid reactions to plays on the field
The one time I was able to see him in game action he showed more of a strength on pass defense, where he was active, aggressive and provided tight coverage
Though I would have liked to see him more physical at supporting the run, because until he improves in this area of his game he will not be considered a complete corner to me
Though there is a good chance he will not be drafted, his natural athletic upside and seemingly effortless movement during pass defense, should make him a player NFL teams should be intrigued by and want to bring into their training camps

Falcons | Lake released
Thu, 24 Aug 2006 22:01:02 -0700

AtlantaFalcons.com reports the Atlanta Falcons have released DT Antwan Lake.

Standing an impressive six foot four and over three hundred pounds, Atlanta
Falcons defensive tackle Antwan Lake has been waiting for the 2006 football
season all his life. Undrafted three seasons ago, Lake was signed as a
restricted free agent to compete for the starting defensive tackle position
opposite Pro Bowler Rod Coleman this preseason. Lake and incumbent
Chad Lavalais are the front runners to claim the position that coach Jim
Mora declared up for grabs at the start of the off-season. One of the biggest
weaknesses of the Falcons in 2005 was their inability to stop the run up the
middle, which is exactly where Lake fits in. Although Lake has the ability
to get to the quarterback, he is more useful to Atlanta as a run stuffer. The
Falcons have one of the quickest defensive lines in the NFL with newly
acquired John Abraham and Falcon veteran Patrick Kerney, however the
cost of sporting that lineup is being soft at stopping the inside run.....
http://www.thelinemen.com/featured_d_lineman2.html

2005 Season (Falcons)
Played in 13 games with two starts and registered 21 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one safety.
Started third career game vs. New York Jets (10/24) in place of an injured DT Chad Lavalais (back spasms) and led the defensive line with five tackles in addition to posting his first sack of the season. The sack on QB Vinny Testaverde forced a fumble that was recovered by DE Patrick Kerney and led to a field goal.
Registered five tackles and a career-high 1.5 sacks at Detroit (11/24).
Recorded the Falcons lone safety of the season vs. New Orleans (12/12) as he sacked QB Aaron Brooks in the endzone.
Inactive at Chicago (12/18) and at Tampa Bay (12/24) before being placed on Injured Reserve (shoulder) on
December 27.

Panthers | Toeaina waived from team
Sat, 26 Aug 2006 11:54:48 -0700

Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers OT Albert Toeaina has been waived from the team.

Class: 4Sr
School: Tennessee
Conference: Southeastern
Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 350
40 Time: 5.35
Grading System

BIO: Junior College transfer who started the past two years at right tackle.

POSITIVES: Big, nasty blocker best in confined quarters. Strong at the point, gets movement from run blocks and seals defenders from the action. Patient in pass protection, jolts opponents with hand punch and effectively uses angles. Rarely gives up an inch of room and works hard to annihilate opponents.

NEGATIVES: Ineffective in space, lacks lateral blocking range and has trouble in motion. Stiff, which hurts his ability to finish blocks.

ANALYSIS: A solid prospect on the right side, Toeaina has the skills for a power running offense. A likely backup who can see action as a spot starter at the next level.

PROJECTION: Early Sixth Round

Panthers | C. Jenkins waived from team
Sat, 26 Aug 2006 11:51:13 -0700

Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers LB Corey Jenkins has been waived from the team.

Class: Sr
School: South Carolina
Conference: SEC
Ht., Wt.: 6'0, 220
40 Time: 4.61
Grade: 3.15

Selected by Miami Dolphins
Round 6, pick 8 (181 overall)
BIO: Garden City Junior College transfer used at both QB and safety last season. Completed 55.6 percent of his throws for 1,334 yards with seven TDs and 10 INTs and also led the team on the ground posting 160-655-4. Collected 10 tackles after seeing duty late in the season in the secondary. Used in a backup role at QB the prior season, throwing only 24 passes yet producing 59-313-1 as a ball carrier. Will be 27 years old when the season roles around next September.

POSITIVES: Athletic prospect still learning to become a football player. At QB displays a nice arm and the ability to make the deep pass, laying the ball in front of receivers and letting them run to it. Strong running the ball, breaks tackles and picks up a lot of yardage off initial contact. Flashed skill late in the year as a defensive back as a hard hitting safety who kept the play in front of him and flew around the ball.

NEGATIVES: Does not see the field or find the safety as a passer and throws off his back foot. Hesitant in the backfield reacting to the pass and much better versus the run.

ANALYSIS: Needs a lot of time and age is a problem. Looks like a prospect at strong safety or even running back but must make a quick impression.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

First Wave Of Cuts Produce No Real Surprises
August 26, 2006

There are still four more names to move off the current roster between now and Tuesday at 4 p.m., and it's likely the Eagles will decide at that time to officially place the likes of Adrien Clarke and Greg Richmond and Jason Davis on the Injured Reserve list.
The roster must be pared to 75 players by then, but it's a mere technicality. The work has been done.

The Eagles released 11 players on Saturday to trim the numbers, and that first wave of cuts was fairly expected all along. There were no shockers on the list.

Veteran Ed Jasper was signed in the off-season to bolster depth at defensive tackle, and then the Eagles drafted Brodrick Bunkley and LaJuan Ramsey and, all of a sudden, defensive tackle was loaded.

Jasper was a simple choice. You could see it from the first day of training camp. The kids -- including Keyonta Marshall -- just had more bounce, more sizzle.

And Jasper now looks for a job, which he should find quite easily.

One thing about the players who were released: They all deserve respect. They worked hard in the spring camps and through the training camp heat and now through four games of the preseason. They're all excellent athletes and very good football players.

They just aren't good enough to make this team.

Wide receiver Carl Ford, for example, was a kid whom the Eagles claimed off of waivers last season. The Eagles liked his quick feet and wanted to get him to Philadelphia, get him into the scheme and see what he could do.

And what they saw was a pretty good receiver, a young man who got into and out of his routes quickly, who caught the ball well and who was tough.

But the roster logjam here didn't give Ford much of a chance to peek his head through to see the sunshine. And now he's in the uncomfortable position of trying to find a new home, a paycheck.

Second-year man OT Calvin Armstrong was one of the surprises of last year's training camp. He made the team as a sixth-round draft pick and offered a thoughtful, detailed perspective on his situation. Armstrong is a big, strong kid who has already developed a great deal in a year's time, but the Eagles found a diamond in the rough in the undrafted Pat McCoy, and he is now in position to take Armstrong's job as the fourth offensive tackle on this team.

This is how you improve the roster from one year to the next. You challenge the bottom of the roster with draft picks and after-draft signings, and then you see what you have.

In McCoy, the Eagles have a young prospect. In Armstrong, they had a player who was just a cut below.

For those "fringe," players who survived this cut, the reward is a game on Friday night against the Jets. If history holds true, Andy Reid will sit many of his regulars and turn the game over to the "bubble" Eagles.

If nothing else, many of those players will have 60 minutes of tape for all of the 31 other teams to watch and study.

This is a cruel business, indeed. On Friday night many of these young guys were dressed and on the sidelines of the nationally-televised game. What a thrill! Friends and family back home could watch them with pride and envy.

Now? They are available for hire, waiting for the phone to ring.

Vikings | Bubin released from team
Sun, 27 Aug 2006 00:15:54 -0700

Vikings.com reports Minnesota Vikings OT Sean Bubin has been released from the team.

Offensive Tackle
College: Illinois
Height: 6-6
Weight: 306
Hometown: Rantoul, Ill.

Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal

OVERVIEW
Model of consistency for the Illini, starting three seasons at the demanding left offensive tackle position … Allowed only one quarterback sack in 36 games as a starter … A two-way lineman in high school, he spent his freshman season at Illinois performing on special teams … Replaced Marques Sullivan at left tackle the following year, leading the way as the offense set school season records for yardage in both 2001 and 2002.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a tall frame with long arms, broad shoulders, good thickness in the chest, wide waist and hips, thick thighs and calves and above-average balance … Shows excellent body control on the move, exploding on contact … Has above-average lateral agility and quickly gets out front when pulling in space … Looks fluid in making the hard reach block, then pivoting to locate a secondary target … Plays with a good base, keeping his feet underneath his body … Sets a heavy anchor and rarely over-extends … Uses his mass and strength very well when blocking in-line … Stays on blocks consistently and shows proper hand placement that allows him to control and sustain … Sets his feet and shows quickness kicking out in his pass blocking, using his speed to redirect inside … Adept at switching up on stunts and is quick to recognize and locate the blitz … His nimble feet allow him to drop step and cut off and reach when zone blocking … Also gives 100-percent effort to hold on and stay on blocks … Keeps his shoulders square on double teams and has the burst to locate linebackers working into the second level.
Negatives: Gets good movement off the snap, but needs to keep his shoulders square rather than lean into the defenders … More of a mauler than a fighter, preferring to defeat his man with finesse rather than aggression … Has a good kick slide, but is sometimes late to cut off vs. the wide speed rush … Gets his leg base a little too wide at times, resulting in him being late to change direction vs. the quick speed rush.

AGILITY TESTS
5.13 in the 40-yard dash … 1.82 10-yard dash … Bench presses 225 pounds 25 times … 4.74 20-yard shuttle … 7.54 three-cone drill … 26½-inch vertical jump … 8-foot-2 broad jump … 33¼-inch arm length … 9 3/8-inch hands.

Sun, 27 Aug 2006 12:51:53 -0700

The New York Jets announced LB Mondoe Davis has been waived from the team.

Former University of Delaware standout Mondoe Davis had an outstanding game on special teams and snared an interception while playing linebacker for the New York Jets in a 10-3 preseason victory over the Detroit Lions last Friday, Aug. 12.

Davis, who also had two tackles in the game, was singled out by Jets Head Coach Herman Edwards. "He's a tough guy. Fast. Smart," Edwards told the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger in a profile on the former Fightin’ Blue Hen. "He did a great job on special teams and made the big play on the tipped ball. He likes football. Has great energy. Asks great questions. You like those kind of guys."

Vikings.com reports Minnesota Vikings DL Manase Hopoi has been released from the team.
Position: DT Number: 56
School: Washington Height: 6'4
Status: Declared Weight: 280

A player that may not be the greatest athlete but boy does he have a motor, I mean he never gives up on a play, he is the consummate ball player
He also may not have the ideal size for the inside interior area, but he is tough, holds up well inside against the rush, and often disrupts the opposing teams running game
He also brings a consistent rush up the middle on the opposing quarterback , which disrupts a quarterbacks throwing lanes and gives them the impression that the pocket is collapsing around them
You can often find this defensive lineman helping on a tackle down field 20 yards or more, and he will pursue the ball from sideline to sideline
I would like to see him gain another 20lbs or so to help him hold up against the NFL competition he will be competing with on a every down basis
As for his draft status, I feel the (6th RD) would be good value, mainly due to his lack of ideal size for the scouts, I also could see him as a non-drafted player, if that is the case some lucky team will really make out!

Lions | H. Smith released from team
Sun, 27 Aug 2006 17:30:38 -0700

The Detroit Lions announced CB Harrison Smith has been released from the team.

Harrison Smith DB 6'2 200 California
By: Robert Davis

In 2004, Harrison Smith made a name for himself. Prior to his junior season, he was solid, but really did not make too many plays. Things changed as a junior when he finished the season with 31 tackles to go along with 18 pass breakups. Smith wasn't as big of a factor on the ball this year, but he was more active all over the field. He finished his senior season with 61 tackles, three for loss, one sack, and two interceptions.

Smith has excellent size for the corner position. He is tall and lanky, and can match up with bigger receivers well. He will not back down from any receiver, and loves to get in your face and hit you. Whether he's back in coverage, or coming up to support the run, he is always around the action. He comes to the ball to make plays instead of letting things happen.

Harrison may be a tweener at the next level. He has played corner, but may lack the standout athleticism and speed to project there at the next level. He has the frame and toughness to play safety, but does not have enough experience there. As a safety, he will also need to bulk up more to be more prepared for the physical style of play. Even though he has broken up a lot of passes, he has not come up with very many interceptions in his career, and that is a worry.

Harrison Smith may have some doubt around what position he is best suited for at the next level. If he can test out well athletically, teams will give him first crack at corner because of his size at that position. If not, he still has a chance to make it as a safety. He could be a very good free safety at the next level if given time to adjust to the position. With his aggressiveness and size, he will find a place in the NFL.

Cowboys | L. Williams will not be on the team's roster
Mon, 28 Aug 2006 19:48:42 -0700

Rob Phillips, of DallasCowboys.com, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said CB Lenny Williams will not be on the team's roster for 2006.

Lenny Williams
Position: Cornerback
College: Southern
Height: 5-9
Weight: 190
Hometown: Lake Charles, La.

Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal

OVERVIEW
Outstanding pass defender who constantly comes up with the big plays … Has a great blend of speed and leaping ability, resulting in opposing receivers going home with no touchdown receptions in the last two years … Recorded 159 tackles (102 solos) with a 9-yard sack, 13 stops for losses of 37 yards, three fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, nine interceptions for 120 yards in returns, including a touchdown and 24 pass deflections while returning a blocked punt 82 yards for a score in his final 25 games.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Has a lean, angular frame, but shows good body tone, a thin waist, long arms, and defined chest and shoulders … Stays tight with the receiver in the deep half of the zone, using his hands effectively to reroute his opponent … Shows a quick burst coming out of his cuts and does a nice job of planting and driving out of his backpedal … Breaks on the ball sharply, competing for it with aggression … Has impressive range, covering ground quickly when beaten … Makes proper body adjustments going up for the ball and strikes low when delivering his tackles.
Negatives: Can catch with his hands, but plays the ball a little too much, tending to lose relationship with the receiver working down the sidelines … Allows too much cushion when playing the deep zone, but has the burst to make plays in front of him … Can be fooled by play-action … Reaches back on his heels sometimes when turning in his backpedal, but shows good balance to recover.

AGILITY TESTS
4.56 in the 40-yard dash … Bench presses 225 pounds 24 times … 37-inch vertical jump … 10-foot broad jump … 4.26 20-yard shuttle … 12.24 60-yard shuttle … 7.78 three-cone drill.

BIO: Two-year starter awarded varying degrees of All-Conference honors since his junior campaign. Finished with numbers of 31/9/4 as a senior after 46/8.5/2.5 the prior year.

POSITIVES: Hard-working defender best as a one-gap lineman. Built low to the ground, plays with good pad level and quickly gets off the snap. Explodes through the gaps and redirects to ball carriers. Fluid if asked to twist or stunt, makes plays up and down the line and quickly closes to the play.

NEGATIVES: Lacks bulk and can be driven off line or handled by opponents. Has a short-area burst of speed which he cannot sustain.

Bears | D. Slay waived
Mon, 28 Aug 2006 16:10:09 -0700

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears LB Dwayne Slay has been waived.
6'3" 216 4.8

Pros: HUGE hitter, a deadly tackler, great size, very athletic, can make plays, forces A LOT of fumbles.
Cons: Will miss tackles going for the big hit, not very fast, needs to work on his coverage skills, inexperienced, only started 1 year.
Draft Exchange Analysis:
: Dwayne Slay isn’t the best safety in the draft, but is probably the biggest hitter in all of college football and does just what his name says – Slays. He is a HUGE hitter and forces fumbles regularly. He is a great safety in terms of tackling. However, Slay needs to improve upon his coverage skills and not be so risky. Whoever gets him is going to get a QB destroyer.
Most Like: Sean Taylor (Washington Redskins)
Best Fits: New England, Oakland, Denver Worst Fits: Houston, Dallas

ANALYSIS: A solid college player with good upside for the next level, Mims must play at a higher level of consistency to have a realistic shot of making an NFL roster.

Titans | Newberry released
Tue, 29 Aug 2006 14:05:19 -0700

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports the Tennessee Titans released LB Jared Newberry.

Position: Outside Linebacker/Strong Safety
College: Stanford
Height: 6-1
Weight: 234
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minn.

OVERVIEW
Newberry is a highly intelligent athlete with quick read-and-diagnose skills. He comes from a sports-oriented family: His grandfather Richard and two great uncles (Jimmy Lee and Henry) played professional baseball in the Negro Leagues. He is a two-year starter at the strong-side outside linebacker position, having made the successful switch there after playing fullback as a freshman.

The prep-school choir member used those scholarships to attend Stanford as a walk-on. He redshirted as a freshman, performing on the scout team as an inside linebacker. He appeared in 10 games in 2001, seeing action mostly on special teams while serving as a reserve fullback, totaling a pair of tackles and two carries for 19 yards with a touchdown.

Newberry shifted to outside linebacker in 2002. He started three games and ranked fourth on the team with 45 tackles (29 solos) with three sacks, a fumble recovery, an interception and three pass break-ups. He took over strong-side linebacker duties the following year, ranking second on the squad with 67 tackles (40 solos), including three sacks, 9½ stops for losses, three forced fumbles, an interception and seven pass deflections.

He continued as a starter in 2004, but saw his production drastically decrease, finishing eighth on the squad with 45 tackles (32 solos). He managed only an assisted sack, nine stops for losses, an interception and three pass break-ups. Newberry would finish his career with 159 tackles (103 solos), 6½ sacks for minus-42 yards and 23½ stops for losses of 92 yards. He recovered and caused three fumbles, intercepted three passes for 28 yards in returns and deflected 14 passes. He also gained 17 yards with a touchdown on three carries while playing fullback.

ANALYSIS
Positives … Tough, instinctive and productive athlete with long arms and room on his frame for additional growth. … Has above average speed for a linebacker and shows good sideline-to-sideline range. … Plays faster than his timed speed and has a natural feel for tight ends, wide receivers and running backs in their routes. … Shows good instincts and makes plays in space. … Stays plays under control and is a solid wrap-up tackler, showing the range to make plays in pursuit. … Has a short burst to close and plays with good awareness working in the zone. … Has natural hands for the interception and generates good acceleration coming out of his backpedal. … His speed and coverage ability is his strong points, along with solid field instincts. … His coverage skills could prove beneficial if he drops a few pounds and converts to strong safety, where his marginal strength would not be much of an issue. … His ability to play all special teams will bring decent instant value next season. … Quick reader who has the burst to knife through traffic and shows the lateral agility to get transfer.

Negatives … Will try to fill the rush lanes with no hesitation, but the results are marginal as he is generally mauled by the blockers due to a lack of playing strength (290-pound bench press). … Active with his hands, but fails to generate the power needed to stack and control. … While he is a solid tackler, he is incapable of stacking due to strength issues. … Is best making plays away from the box, as he can be pin-balled quite a bit when trying to shoot the gaps or generate an inside blitz. … Needs to dedicate considerable hours in the weight room to add needed muscle development and strength. … Lacks the upper body strength to deliver arm tackles

Patriots | Roach waived
Tue, 29 Aug 2006 12:32:43 -0700

Mike Reiss, of the Boston Globe, reports the New England Patriots released LB Freddie Roach Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Position: ILB
Class: Sr
School: Alabama
Conference: Southeastern
Ht., Wt.: 6-2, 257
40 Time: 5.01

BIO: Four-year starter and All-Conference selection every year but his sophomore campaign. Senior totals included 66 tackles after 57/9/2 as a junior.

POSITIVES: Run-stuffing linebacker best as a two-down defender. Forceful up the field, fires through gaps and displays a straight-line burst of speed. Strong, defeats blocks and brings ball-handlers down on initial contact.

NEGATIVES: Lacks the ability to immediately alter his angle of attack or change direction. Possesses marginal ball skills and does not display an explosive break to the pass.

ANALYSIS: A hard-hitting linebacker who stacks well against the run, Roach could back up at middle linebacker or possibly develop into a starter on the inside for a 34 alignment.

PROJECTION: Late Fourth Round
