Lets see if we can keep this to one thread. List a player cut that you want the saints to look at.
Lions | A. Malone released Tue, 20 Jun 2006 21:54:52 -0700 DetroitLions.com reports the Detroit Lions have released rookie free agent CB Antonio Malone. Height: 5-11 3/4 | Weight: 200 | 40-Time: 4.59 Strengths: Size is okay with a solid frame and long arms...Has pretty good speed and quickness...Tough and plays bigger than he is...Physical and plays with a nasty demeanor...Able to recover from mistakes...Will support the run...Experienced. Weaknesses: Can be too aggressive at times...Will miss some tackles...Footwork and technique need some attention...Needs to play within himself...Struggles when he has to play in space or in zone coverage...Has a history of trouble with concussions. Notes: A three-year starter...Probably needs to be in the right scheme to succeed...Might struggle with the NFL's rules against contact beyond five yards...Probably profiles as more of a backup in the pros but you have to love his intensity and attitude. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...niomalone.html |

Bears | Thompson released
Wed, 28 Jun 2006 13:02:54 -0700 ChicagoBears.com reports the Chicago Bears have released CB Chris Thompson. We need to upgrade special teams. here is another. Chris Thompson Position: Cornerback College: Nicholls State Height: 6-0 Weight: 191 Hometown: New Orleans, La. OVERVIEW Regarded by many as the best cover cornerback in the NCAA Division I-AA ranks, and is also highly regarded for his special teams play, holding the school season and career records for blocked kicks … A model of consistency, as he has not allowed a touchdown reception by an opponent during his career … Became the first Nicholls State player to be named to an All-America team (2002) since Darryl Pounds received the award in 1994 … Started 32 of 35 games for the Colonels, recording 148 tackles (90 solos) with 11 interceptions, 28 pass deflections, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a school career-record eight blocked kicks. ANALYSIS Positives: Has very good muscle development, with broad shoulders, thick arms, a small waist and well-defined thighs … Leader by example, who will not hesitate to speak up … His hard work ethic and high character make him well-respected by teammates … Plays with great field vision … Quick to key and diagnose the plays (even complicated formations) … Has the ideal size needed to play in press coverage and shows sudden moves and fluid foot motion attacking the ball … Alert playing the zone, utilizing his sudden acceleration to instantly gain depth in his backpedal … Knows how to get his hands underneath the receiver's jersey to rock the opponent off-stride near the line of scrimmage … Shows proper backpedal posture, staying low in his stance with a hip swerve through transition (gets a sharp jump on the ball with the proper feel for the switch-offs in the zone) … Quick to close on the ball and times his leaps perfectly to get to the pigskin at its high point … Has soft, natural hands for the interception and shows good strength to shed blocks when providing run support … His speed, flexibility and recovery agility allows him to quickly recover on deep routes … Times the pass well, using his excellent leaping ability with proper hand extension to secure the ball before turning upfield … Tough athlete who, despite a lack of ideal bulk, shows no hesitation facing up to blockers when working in the box … Solid wrap-up tackler who stays low in his pads and has the hip snap to make plays moving laterally. Negatives: While fast to turn in transition, he needs to do a better job of opening his hips (some tightness in his turn) … Can elevate to get to the ball at its high point, but needs to show more consistency timing his jumps … Shows good tackling form and willingness in run support, but could use added strength in order to prevent getting run over by the larger blockers. AGILITY TESTS 4.53 in the 40-yard dash … 255-pound bench press … 405-pound squat … 31-inch arm length … 9¼-inch hands … Right-handed. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/chris_thompson |

Giants | Anderson waived
Thu, 6 Jul 2006 14:19:21 -0700 The New York Giants have announced the team has waived DT Sir Henry Anderson. Oregon St Height: 6-3 7/8 | Weight: 306 | 40-Time: 5.25 Official Bio Strengths: Has good size and a solid frame...Plays with great leverage...Does an excellent job of shedding and taking on multiple blockers...Stout at the point and will get a good push and hold his ground...Is able to penetrate and collapse the pocket. Weaknesses: Does not provide much in terms of a pass rush...Conditioning and stamina have been questioned...Is not very athletic or agile...Upside might be limited to that of just a situational player...Was very inconsistent...Has some durability concerns. Notes: Missed the entire 2002 season with a broken right forearm...Always played in a defensive tackle rotation...The type who will never be a star at the next level but could play a role for some team as a two-down guy to occupy space in the middle |
