Height: 5-11 3/4 | Weight: 200 | 40-Time: 4.59 Strengths: Size is okay with a solid frame and long arms...Has pretty good speed and quickness...Tough and plays bigger than he is...Physical and plays with a nasty demeanor...Able to recover from mistakes...Will support the run...Experienced. Weaknesses: Can be too aggressive at times...Will miss some tackles...Footwork and technique need some attention...Needs to play within himself...Struggles when he has to play in space or in zone coverage...Has a history of trouble with concussions. Notes: A three-year starter...Probably needs to be in the right scheme to succeed...Might struggle with the NFL's rules against contact beyond five yards...Probably profiles as more of a backup in the pros but you have to love his intensity and attitude. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/sco...niomalone.html |

Wed, 28 Jun 2006 13:02:54 -0700 ChicagoBears.com reports the Chicago Bears have released CB Chris Thompson. We need to upgrade special teams. here is another. Chris Thompson Position: Cornerback College: Nicholls State Height: 6-0 Weight: 191 Hometown: New Orleans, La. OVERVIEW Regarded by many as the best cover cornerback in the NCAA Division I-AA ranks, and is also highly regarded for his special teams play, holding the school season and career records for blocked kicks … A model of consistency, as he has not allowed a touchdown reception by an opponent during his career … Became the first Nicholls State player to be named to an All-America team (2002) since Darryl Pounds received the award in 1994 … Started 32 of 35 games for the Colonels, recording 148 tackles (90 solos) with 11 interceptions, 28 pass deflections, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a school career-record eight blocked kicks. ANALYSIS Positives: Has very good muscle development, with broad shoulders, thick arms, a small waist and well-defined thighs … Leader by example, who will not hesitate to speak up … His hard work ethic and high character make him well-respected by teammates … Plays with great field vision … Quick to key and diagnose the plays (even complicated formations) … Has the ideal size needed to play in press coverage and shows sudden moves and fluid foot motion attacking the ball … Alert playing the zone, utilizing his sudden acceleration to instantly gain depth in his backpedal … Knows how to get his hands underneath the receiver's jersey to rock the opponent off-stride near the line of scrimmage … Shows proper backpedal posture, staying low in his stance with a hip swerve through transition (gets a sharp jump on the ball with the proper feel for the switch-offs in the zone) … Quick to close on the ball and times his leaps perfectly to get to the pigskin at its high point … Has soft, natural hands for the interception and shows good strength to shed blocks when providing run support … His speed, flexibility and recovery agility allows him to quickly recover on deep routes … Times the pass well, using his excellent leaping ability with proper hand extension to secure the ball before turning upfield … Tough athlete who, despite a lack of ideal bulk, shows no hesitation facing up to blockers when working in the box … Solid wrap-up tackler who stays low in his pads and has the hip snap to make plays moving laterally. Negatives: While fast to turn in transition, he needs to do a better job of opening his hips (some tightness in his turn) … Can elevate to get to the ball at its high point, but needs to show more consistency timing his jumps … Shows good tackling form and willingness in run support, but could use added strength in order to prevent getting run over by the larger blockers. AGILITY TESTS 4.53 in the 40-yard dash … 255-pound bench press … 405-pound squat … 31-inch arm length … 9¼-inch hands … Right-handed. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/chris_thompson |

How about we just sign Rafael Nadal and line him up at CB opposite McKenzie? He's got great burst, can change direction in a heartbeat and can cover gaps in a hurry. OK, so I'm a fan of his, but I figured I'd mention it since he's the best defensive player in tennis.

His play on the field and physical ability has brought numerous National Football League scouts to the Mayville State campus. At least 14 NFL teams have now visited campus to look at film and visit Rideaux. |
Raiders | Cooper waived
Tue, 18 Jul 2006 19:14:53 -0700 Raiders.com reports the Oakland Raiders have waived LB Roger Cooper. http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/cooper_roger Position: Outside Linebacker College: Montana State Height: 6-2 Weight: 243 ANALYSIS Cooper is a natural team leader who plays his heart out on the field. He is an instinctive, hard-hitting tackler, but does play under control. He has a good feel for blocking schemes, but needs to be more active with his hands when trying to disengage. He has a strong body that he hurls around to make the play and the lateral agility to string out the sweep and squeeze down. He is not a quick shedder though, as he tends to stack at a high stance and needs to play lower in his pads. When he gets proper hand extension, Cooper is effective at warding off blocks. He drops back in pass coverage quickly in the short area, as he will use his power to re-route the running backs and tight ends. He runs well and shows a good burst to close down the line and his hip flexibility lets him shadow a short receiver. Cooper's agility is evident with his ability to change directions in a chase. Cooper makes plays on the ball from all over the field and can generate good pass rush heat coming off the edge. When he takes on the lead block, he can push the fullback back through the rush lane, but needs to stay lower in his pads doing this or he will get stonewalled. He hunts down the ball from across the field and stays at a good pad level to wrap and secure as a tackler. He is sometimes slow to sniff out the ball at the point of attack, but he has the recovery speed to close quickly. Cooper lacks natural hands to make the interception. He does use his long arms effectively to gain separation and is best when coming off the edge, as he can generate a good upfield burst. He is a strong wrap-up tackler, especially in the open field. While he has good recovery speed, he appears better suited to work along the line of scrimmage. Cooper is a decent blitzer, but just seems to lack the fluid hip snap needed to operate in space or trail the receivers in man coverage. Cooper plays with a high motor and is known for his explosive hits, but you would have hoped he could have dominated better considering the level of competition he faced. This is a player on the cusp of putting it all together. Some linebackers might go ahead of him in the draft, but he proved that he can play with the big boys in the college all-star game circuit. This could be that sleeper who sneaks into the early part of the second day of the draft. AGILITY 4.68 in the 40-yard dash … 370-pound bench press … 500-pound squat … 327-pound power clean … 31-inch vertical jump … 33-inch arm length … 9 1/8-inch hands … Right-handed hmmm |

'06 in NFL Europe.
Yep that was his 15 minutes of fame as a rookie. Remeber his playing time was due to FA loss and injuries in NY. In 06 he did so so in europe. At least that was the word here in Boston. Maybe he is happy with the 15 minutes of fame. The Eagles are pretty deep with back ups, its the starters they are having trouble with. As for the Patriots they have excellent depth on the line. Last year proved it. In NE as a third option on the line at best. So he might be worth a look. Sorry I missed that one. |

Bills Cut Veteran Lb PoseyPrint this article | Email this article
August 7, 2006 By SportsTicker ROCHESTER, New York (Ticker) - Jeff Posey started 47 games over the last three seasons with the Buffalo Bills. But the veteran linebacker didn't even make the team this season. Posey was released by the Bills on Monday, five days before their preseason opener. New Bills coach Dick Jauron likely will use Angelo Crowell or Mario Haggan at strongside linebacker after cutting Posey. Crowell showed he was capable of being a starter last season, filling in at middle linebacker when Takeo Spikes suffered a torn Achilles tendon. Posey, who turns 31 next Monday, recorded 68 tackles and three sacks last season. A nine-year veteran, Posey signed as a free agent with the Bills in February 2003. He set career highs with 71 tackles and eight sacks in 2002 with Houston. okay he could be a great backup. |
Cowboys | Parham released
Mon, 7 Aug 2006 14:34:18 -0700 Todd Archer, of the Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys released LB Kai Parham Monday, Aug. 7 Kai Parham Height: 6-3 Weight: 255 40 Speed: 5.02* Position: Inside Linebacker College: Virginia Final Grade: F 5.0 GM JR Scouting LLC Grading Scale/Key SUMMARY Parham was a huge disappointment when he was graded because he had such a tremendous reputation in the media. In the six games he got charted, he was very productive in one (Minnesota), productive in two (Florida State and Miami) and unproductive in three (Akron, Duke and Maryland). He is a well built linebacker who definitely looks the part on the 'Hoof', but he lacks the foot quickness, explosiveness and playing speed to make plays consistently in the NFL. He is definitely tough enough and has the natural strength to be a force at the point of attack vs. blockers and as a strong and physical tackler. He is the type of linebacker that is all too easy to find -- tough, smart and highly competitive, but limited by quickness and speed. Overall, Parham will probably be drafted late because of his reputation, but his lack of quickness, athleticism and playing speed is going to make it hard for him to stick in the NFL. His best chance of sticking is to play inside linebacker for a team that plays the 3-4 defense. STRONG POINTS Parham is a well built linebacker with the natural strength to stack the point of attack vs.the lead blocker in the hole to clog up the inside run. He has shown the ability to jolt the blocker with punch, stays free and makes tackles on inside run. He has good instincts and usually gets started toward the ball quickly and when he has a clear path to the ball he can chase down ball carriers in pursuit between the offensive tackles. He sniffs out the screen pass well and gets outside to make the tackle right after the catch better than expected. He can cover tight ends/running backs on short routes in man-to-man and looks surprisingly smooth dropping off ball into zone coverage. WEAKNESSES Parham is limited athletically by his lack of explosiveness and playing speed. While he can chase down some plays between the offensive tackles, he lacks the play speed to make impact plays in pursuit and most of his tackles away are made downfield. He is stiff in the hips and struggles to adjust and tackle well out in space. While he can cover tight ends/running backs decently on short routes, he lacks the acceleration and speed to stay with them down the field. He does not protect his legs from low/cut blocks well and struggles to move through traffic quickly. Despite good instincts, his aggressiveness causes him to bite on play-action and miss-direction plays too often. MLB this is a guy who needs just a little time. Over aggressive can be controled. |
Cowboys | Team releases Mroz
Mon, 7 Aug 2006 10:07:45 -0700 Jaime Aron, of the Associated Press, reports the Dallas Cowboys have released QB Jeff Mroz Jeff Mroz Grade: 3.13 Position: QB Class: Sr School: Yale Conference: Ivy League Ht., Wt.: 6-4, 225 40 Time: 4.94 Grading System BIO: All-Conference selection as a senior after passing numbers of 59.3%/2484/22/14. Played primarily with the scout team before last year. POSITIVES: Large pocket passer with an NFL arm. Patient, zips the ball into targets or gets rid of passes with a flick of the wrist. Sees the field, finds the open wideout and puts touch on throws. Puts deep passes in front of receivers and lets them run to the ball. NEGATIVES: Has an elongated motion which slows the release of the ball. Must improve his pass placement and downfield accuracy. Tends to direct passes. Immobile and cannot escape the rush. ANALYSIS: An intelligent quarterback with the ability to power the ball into receivers, Mroz offers a good degree of upside potential and is a solid developmental prospect. This is my guy for the practice or nfl europe. Needs time but is more than good enough to be a second stringer in for years to come. Just needs time. |
Redskins | M. Brown released
Wed, 9 Aug 2006 16:11:04 -0700 ESPN.com reports the Washington Redskins have released rookie free agent DL Manaia Brown. Manaia Brown Brigham Young DT 6-4 310 / Brown has ideal size for the inside of the defensive line. He is agile with good explosion off the line and has the muscle and quick hands to outmaneuver blockers. He has also shown an outstanding 35-inch vertical jump, creating havoc in passing lanes. However, Brown has not been the presence on the defense one might think because he has a tendency to disappear and lose intensity. He will have to convince scouts that he will play every down. http://www.msnbc.com/modules/sports/...p?playerid=446 |
49ers | Dixon waived
Mon, 21 Aug 2006 19:50:07 -0700 SF49ers.com reports the San Francisco 49ers have waived rookie LB David Dixon. 6-2/235 AGILITY NOTES Campus: 4.42 in the 40-yard dash...465-pound bench press...44-inch vertical jump...49-inch triple jump. ANALYSIS Positives: Has a well-built frame with thick bone structure, broad shoulders, muscular arms, big hands, good bubble and good-sized legs, thighs and calves...Is a strong presence on defense who needs to be accounted for on every play...Plays alert and is quick to read and react, making proper body adjustments on the move...Flashes outstanding strength at the point of attack and can fill the rush lanes with authority... Has very good stack/tackle ability vs. the inside run...Does a very good job of using his hands to control the blocker, easily adjusting and reacting to the plays in front of him... Flashes the hand strength to play off blocks...Has the outstanding speed, leverage and range to reach the outside, doing a nice job of avoiding blocks in attempts to shut down the cutback lanes...Can turn and run with good change of direction agility and is a hard hitter who explodes behind his tackles...Has the vision, awareness and turning ability to stay with tight ends and backs in pass routes...Effective when planting and driving out of his breaks, flying to the ball instantly, showing the hip flexibility and control to stay tight on the hip of the receiver...Has the natural hands to reach and pluck the ball away from the body's frame...Has a great initial burst on returns, showing the ability to twist and adjust in attempts to squeeze through tight quarters to gain valid yardage on kickoffs... Has outstanding leaping ability and timing to knock down kicks at the line of scrimmage. Negatives: Struggles in the classroom, forcing him to sit out the 2005 season due to academic ineligibility...Good at using his hands to fend off blocks, but needs to use his punch with more consistency to shock and jolt the opponent...Makes plays in front of him, but will bite on play-action and fakes when he eyes the backfield too long...Has the speed to cover in one-on-one situations, but must improve his timing picking up switch-offs when working in the zone. Dixon is a well-built athlete with tremendous quickness and leaping ability. He is a raw talent, but plays with great ball anticipation skills, showing urgency while performing until the whistle. He has a solid frame with powerful upper body strength and loose hips to turn and run on the ball coming out of his breaks. Dixon plays with very good field vision and natural instincts. He times his leaps to get to the ball at its high point, showing natural hands for the interception. He is also a standout kick blocker, having batted away ten kicks in two seasons. He also has proven to be a dangerous open field runner on kickoff returns. Dixon has the hand punch to shock and jolt blockers, but needs to use it with more consistency. He is very effective at getting an edge on the blocker, using quick rip and swim moves to rip off the block and generate strong backside pursuit. He has that outstanding speed needed to run sideline-to-sideline and a motor that never quits. He is a hard, punishing tackler who will strike and wrap with explosiveness. He has the loose hips and feet to come out of his breaks and stay on the hip of the receiver in man coverage. He will bite a bit on play-action when he peeks into the backfield too long, but has the recovery speed to get back into the play. Dixon plays with good confidence and is not afraid to mix it up in the trenches, but also comes with glowing praise from both coaching staffs due to his work ethic. He might not have the major college experience of A.J. Hawk, but one look at his production and athletic agility tests scores and you can see that someone will unearth a tremendous, but raw talent with a blank slate to mold within. practice squad guy. but great upside |
