SULLIVAN ARRESTED: Former Saints defensive lineman Johnathan Sullivan was arrested Sunday morning and charged with possession of marijuana, a seat belt violation, running two stop signs and playing loud music in Griffin, Ga., according to police reports. The arresting officer, M.G. Bowman first observed Sullivan, a first-round draft pick by the Saints in 2003 who was recently traded to the New England Patriots, driving with loud music coming from the car at 3:56 a.m., the police report said. While following Sullivan, according to police Bowman saw Sullivan drive through two stop signs without stopping first. Bowman stopped Sullivan and noticed Sullivan and passenger Tamarco Clemons not wearing seat belts and a bag containing what appeared to be marijuna in the car. The police report said Bowman first asked Sullivan if there were any weapons in the car, and after Sullivan said yes, Bowman retrieved a handgun. Bowman then asked Sullivan and Clemons if there was anything illegal in the car, and Sullivan and Clemons said no. Sullivan granted Bowman permission to search the car, where Bowman retrieved the bag that was found to contain less than an ounce of marijuana, which Sullivan and Clemons claimed was not their property. Sullivan and Clemons were arrested and brought to the Griffin Police Department, where they were released on signature bonds.

.. I don't think the arrest of Sullivan has anything to do as to whether the Saints "made the right move" or not.

The trade of Sullivan was something that was needed because the man was taking a roster spot and lots money, and not doing anything for the club. That's that.

I'm willing to bet there are hundreds of players in the NFL who smoke marihuana - and do other recreational -, they just have not been caught yet, while still playing at a high level. See Ricky Williams. Call him a flake, whatever, but Ricky left it on the field when he played.

Not so long ago, there was one incident where a Saints LB crashed his corvette going 120 MPH and traces of cocaine were found in his car. Of course, that said LB suited up the very next Sunday, jaw wired shut and all...

Trading Sullivan wasn't "the right move", it was the necessary move.

I think smitty is just saying that this is indicative of the type guy he is....not smart.

There is a difference between a dude who sits on his couch smokin with his boys and playin xbox and a dude who rides around blaring music, runnin stop signs, holdin a handgun, and blazin some weed in his car. (In Griffin, ga no less.)

Dude is lazy and dumb.

My initial reaction to the trade was that bill would be able to get something out of him. Now, this gets things off on a bad foot.

Look on the bright side, we only gave up 2 first rounders for the guy He came out with known character issues....this was such a bad pick by the Saints.

Maybe this puts a final stamp on a really poor move by our team.

AND at 3:56 AM, waking up neighborhoods as he drove. As much money as those guys make, you gotta know that the sound systems in their vehicles cost as much as the car in most cases. Lazy and DUmb just begins to describe Sully.

We may have gotten good players that helped us win another game or two last season (it was doomed since the storm) and Haslett, Brooks, Venturi might still be here and, now we wouldn't have Bush so all things happen for a reason. We got a new staff, 4 solid LB's (Polley, Simmons, Fujita, and Foreman) a solid DT, Brees, Bennett... to have all of that happen and Sully helping us out is good to me. We may have had Alex Smith instead of Brees.

And, Yes, many players do drugs. And, No, it doesn't ruin all of them. Michael Irvin is a great example of that. But, at least Sully is not our problem anymore.

i have to believe the front office knew of this.......and, it is this belief that makes me say that about sullivan..............
and you can bet, me, along with many others are saying silently, good call payton..................
and while there are many who indulge in the nfl, they are not paid to do so..........and if i were a tooter coming in from college, i could hang it up for a few yrs with millions at stake....unfortunately, some can't..............ricky in point........besides leaving it on the field, he also left it in every sample bottle given to him..........smitty
