Rookie Kicker? Anyone know anything or heard anything?
I have not heard anyone talk about the Rookie Kicker we got from Virginia, does anyone know anything about how he did at rookie camp or OTA's?
I would like to see a new face at the position, preferably a better kicker and younger one than what we got in Carney. Come on the guy's pushin' 40, I dont think he has the leg anymore... |

Barring some kind of miracle, I'm pretty sure Carney will be our kicker. Payton will go with the vet... especially at such a position. Hopefully we'll keep Hughes on our practice squad. I'd hate to lose a leg like that to some other team.

Yeah I'd rather they kept him on as well....I dont't think he is signed yet...If we do sign him can he go to the practice squad without having to go on the waiver wire???

The practice squad is picked after the final cuts. If the player is not claimed on waivers by another club, the player becomes a free agent. Once a free agent, he can sign with any team, including a team's practice squad. Also, a player cannot be claimed off waivers for the sole purpose of being on the practice squad. If claimed off waivers, he is considered part of the active roster. On a side note, once a player is on a practice squad, another team can activate him to their squad. I think the team that has the player on their practice squad, has right to block the activation by promotion to the active roster.
I may not have all the facts correct, but this is how I remember it. I really hope this helps... |
