Dallas Game Player Notes

Give your comments here on what stuck out to you most about individual players--

Brees- did not look sharp at all. Even with some not so great hands those dump passes didn't have much touch. Colston could have had a TD on a catchable ball.

Bouman- I as much as I have despised him he is making legitimate competition to Martin.

Deuce- not enough to tell yet

Bush- his play was much better than his stats. Didja hear Stuart Scott going on about him. I won't be surprised for Deuce's return to be slower and slower.

Horn- I think he will return to All Pro form and numbers barring injury.

Brown- even with these early growing pangs he will be more valuable as a LT

The rest of the O-Line I thought was better than last week, especially the rookies. Still not saying a lot though

Branch- makes the team IMO. See him get some reps against a first team defense in KC will confirm that.

Ninkovich- subtract the personal foul and he had a great game.

Fincher and Bockwoldt- looked lost to me. They might consider upping the offer for Edwards to a 3rd.

Craft- makes me sick as last year. If I am a QB and see him in the game I smile.

McKenzie- I want him to do well but I am seeing more journeyman than All Pro for the contract he got. He is hit or miss taking too many chances IMO.

Young- Thomas can clog a hole but I don't see how Young keeps a starting position the way he gets pushed around. Where I notice him most often is chasing down plays from behind.

RE: Dallas Game Player Notes

Hmmm....as far as individual its hard to tell. I will say that our run coverage was pretty good. Toward the end of the first half our pass rush came to life a little bit. Our DB's still need work but....c'mon guys...give credit to the Dallas WR's. Those catches can make any offense a good one.

RE: Dallas Game Player Notes

good post.
I liked the nickovich personal foul myself in hind site. he was probly mad. he will learn. pro babies get payed to much to be thrown around like that. Thought it was a quick whistle also. boarder line penitly. He was fired up. Some times a good hit and foul works to get the guys fired up. Well in regular season. he gets 2 thumbs up. Branch gets it on offensive side.

Bress is about 70%. he still has a way to go. To many passes low and to the outside hip.

The OL could not buy bress the time of day much less time for a pass 40 yards or more. I want big ben to play at LT next game a bit with the first unit. Interior of line got pushed back 3 to 5 yards on every play. So much for a 3 step drop. Bress better be rolling out alot or at least use a moving pocket. he will not last long.

WR horn is back. the rest you could not judge a thing out there with the OL and bress playing the way they did.

Mike is and always has been a #2. we expect to much out of him. with the d line we have. Fred should flashes and disappointments. Craft was well Craft. Rookies have a long way to go. Practice sqaud needs to loaded up with "Potintal" for the future.

LB grrrrrrr big soft spot again but still do not want to upgrade to a 33 yr. older just yet. Looks to be a position we need to get some good practice squad guys for the next 2 to 3 years. "Potiental" again is the catch word.

DT I am ready to give the rookies a test next week. can not hurt. Villarreal played well again. move him up and lets see what he can do.

Special teams were a bit better at times but still needs room for improvement.

I forgot special teams...

Weatherfords 27 yarder ended that thought.

Hughes kickoffs won't win him anything

Bethel Johnson didn't show enough to improve his standing, wherever that is.

The return team defense was much better, almost average maybe.

It will be fun to watch Reggie actually return a kick.

Pick up Skyler Green if the Boys let him go. We need more wideouts LOL

LKelley-

I share your sentiments about Brees, Bush, Horn, Ninkovich, and McKenzie. In McKenzie's defense, I will say he could not have guarded Glenn on that touchdown pass any better, just Terry made a big play. However, for most of his playing time, he had me scratching my head.
I went to the game, so I didn't have tivo at my disposal. These are a few of the notes i jotted down.

Offense
1. Damn, Bush is good. He doesn't even have to touch the ball.
2. Brees looked rattled. Passes high, passes low.
3. The offensive line makes me nervous. Might have an effect on point #2.
4. Stallworth will take back his #2 spot from Henderson by the end of the preseason.
5. This Colston kid is intriguing. To have been drafted in the 7th round, and to have come from a division I-AA school, I would have expected him to be more raw than this. Alot more raw. He makes the roster.

Defense
1. We are soft up the middle.
2. Our linebackers are weak.
3. Encouraged by the play of our safeties (since they were called upon ALOT last night to make plays). Bellamy is still underrated. Roman Harper was the exlamation mark for me last night, and he will be the starter by the beginning of the season. If he wasn't in on the play, he was around it. Very impressive performance. Bullocks looked good as well.
4. Fincher made a few good plays.
5. Like this Ninkovich kid. He has a motor.
6. Gleason needs to go.

The waiting drove me mad....

The good and bad of the offense/defense...

[u]good

- Donte Stallworth looks explosive and there's no doubt he will be our number 2 receiver when the season starts.

- Colston looks like a steal for us... he's going to make this team as our 4th receiver.

- Bush attracts a lot of attention which will help open up our passing game.

- Joe Horn looks good out there... but then again he's Joe Horn, it's expected.

- Harper/Fincher looks good on special teams which will soften the blow once we cut Gleason. Harper will be our Mel Mitchell on ST.

- Fred Thomas looks solid out there... he's back. For a small guy, he sure likes to support the run and he's good at it.

- Rob Ninkovich. I almost kicked my TV when we drafted him but I'm glad he's showing me why we did. Heck that personal foul he drew... I didn't mind it at all. He's aggressive and finish out plays... I like that.

- Besides that one bad punt Weatherford had, he looks real good out there. If Berger doesn't get healthy soon, it should make things very interesting.

- Bouman looked good... I knew he could do it. We're not going to hear any of those Bouman SUCKS threads here anytime soon with that solid performance. He is what he is, a backup quarterback and I think he's a solid guy. With both Martin and Bouman, I think we're solid.

[u]Bad

- Sean Payton. What kind of play calling is that? With all the playmakers we have on offense, why are we running draws and throwing balls to Karney? It's good to get him involved, but come on... he's our fullback. Let the man do his job and block for Bush/Deuce. Were you really expecting chunks of yardage out of those retarded plays?

- Frontline defense of Grant, Young, Thomas, and Smith were non-existent.

- Did Devery Henderson even play?

- Where the heck were our tightends?

- I agree... our linebackers look lost out there and all that optimism we had about the group during the offseason now is all down the drain.

- Bethel Johnson is useless and will not make the team.

- So much for our undrafted rookie CB's that some were so high on, everyone got torched back there starters and backups. We need more depth.

- Safeties were solid against the run but that was pretty much it.

- If Fincher is starting in the middle when the season starts, we're in trouble.

Hard to look sharp when the Dallas front 7 are pitching a camp and making smores in the backfield . Think Branch is gonna be good. So many holes, not enough gravel.

Nink-looked like a 1st rounder out there, the best thing of the game
Brees-a little shaky start, but got better in the end
Reciver's-good catching, impressed with Colston and Dh, and Horn is back...Wish Hilton could get more envolved, DH had 2 catches and no drops
O-line-much better, still didn't allow a sack...Brown still hasn't got the feeling at that side
Branch-looks awesome, he would've beat out Stecker even if he wasn't injured
Bouman-looked alright, still wish AMAC was healthy so he could earn him a #3 spot
Harper and Bullocks-looks to be the starters, can both hit and have good coverage
Stout-sucks, needs to play harder, now we see why he didn't start
Craft, Phillips, and Williams-all suck and need to be cut, they stay gettin burnt and caught on
McKenzie-needs to get that rust off, he'll have to play better
D-line-stopped the run really well, but didn't get enough pressure on the pass
LB's-looked better, not the weak spot(I say D-Line), needs to play more coverage and not miss those big tackles
ST's-looked way better, Fincher played hard and didn't miss a beat, and that Punter has a leg of steel and he needs to stay consistent

Smith got some pressure
Henderson had 2 catches fot 11 yards
Fincher didn't get in on D, on ST's with 3 tackles
Bethel will get traded anyways
TE's I can agree
The D-line had like 11 tackles for a loss, just no pressure on the Pass
