Just a guess...this is the last year of his contract, malcontent, and was forever injured during his first few years and could not break into the starting lineup.

Like LeCharles, why give up a player for NOTHING...especially when the Saints have WR's that can catch and absent of glass knees, are healthy and want to PLAY. IMHO

Stall for Hood and 5th

Good trade, and the guy at OG for the Eagles is no where near as good as Evans

Hopefully the Pats don't sign Branch and we get em, then trade Stall

I don't think there are many people that are actually down on Stallworth. It just seems from all indications that the new coaching staff is definitely not enamored with him. He is gonna be gone after this year. So rather than another disappearance for nothing ala Howard or Bentley, get something for him that will be of value beyond this season only.

I think the NE idea is great. No way they will let Wilfork go though. I think Branch would be great IF they would sign him to an extension. HE might be a player they think such good things about to make that investment in.

Just don't let him go for nothing. He has to go now to get that payoff. Javon Walker went for a 2nd , Lelie for a conditional (in essence) that will probably be a 3rd and 4th. I'd be happy with a 3rd at this point to an AFC team preferably.

That begs, if he is worth a 3rd, why not offer him to SD for Edwards who are asking a 2nd and the Saints offering a 4th, as a compromise. Maybe get them to throw in a second day pick with Edwards. It sure looks like they could use some young legs there.

we were ahead of the curve...

Per Adam Schefter of the NFL Network, the Saints are interested in obtaining Deion Branch

According to the Boston Herald, "As of last week, the Patriots had $12.2 million in cap space, according to league management council figures. Only two NFL teams - Jacksonville and New Orleans - had more."

Insight: If the Patriots don't find a way to sign Deion Branch, and find themselves short-handed at the wide out position, which in my opinion they already are - proof in the pudding were Ben Watson's numbers on Saturday night -- they shouldn't rest on their success of three Super Bowls in six seasons and pocket the 12 large, if they do and fail this season -- they will have no one to blame but themselves, pointing a finger-> the front office and Kraft. While I believe Branch is asking for too much money -- he couldn't have picked a better time to play hardball -- The Patriots are hurting for top quality receivers, and healthy rookies. (TonyFinn/PFS)

If the Pats can bite on Donte it would make sense. Get a guy you do wan to sign longterm. Pats could extend Donte much cheaper than the Reggie Wayne money Branch wants.

branch did not shoot down the offer he was concerned that the offer was to kick in after this year. he wants a redone contract not an extention. so the sides are not that far apart. after they get an idea what kind of money he is offered they can put incentives into the contract that he can easly meet. A trade is based on new contract money. he does not want to play for the money he is schedualed to get. he should have thought of that when he signed. sure he didn't think about it cashing the first years of his contract.
believe me it is all the talk at the pubs up here.

I hope they keep Donte', Devery, and and Colston can play together for the next few years, and get better.
