RE: only a 7th round pick for linebacker shanle
News: Saints acquired LB Scott Shanle from the Cowboys in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2007.
Impact: Shanle could probably start at any one of New Orleans' linebacker spots but he seems to fit best in the middle. Colby Bockwoldt is the Saints' weak-sider with Scott Fujita stationed on the strong side. (Wed. Aug 23, 2006) |

RE: only a 7th round pick for linebacker shanle
Shanle will come in right away and compete for the starting job at middle linebacker.
Saints coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs also know what Shanle brings to the field. Both coaches were assistants under Bill Parcells in Dallas for Shanle's first three years in the league. 'Scott is happy to be with the Saints,' his agent Jordan Woy said via e-mail. 'He has played for coach Payton and coach Gibbs in the past. He is anxious to learn the team's defense and help anyway he can.' Shanle began last season as the Cowboys' nickel linebacker. But when starter Dat Nguyen retired after suffering numerous injuries, Shanle became the team's weakside starter. He finished last season with 50 tackles and 1.5 sacks. http://www.topix.net/content/kri/401...12111119086486 |

A NEW SAINT
The Saints on Tuesday acquired LB Scott Schanle from Dallas in a trade, the Cowboys receiving a 7th round pick from the Saints for the move. Schanle was on the practice field on Wednesday afternoon and after practice, head coach Sean Payton spoke on why he went out and picked up Schanle. “Scott’s a player we had in Dallas when I was there, we acquired him from St. Louis when he was waived there, said Payton. “He runs well, he plays special teams, he’s smart and again it’s another player we can put at the “WILL (weak-side linebacker) linebacker position. It’s an area we need to keep looking at. http://www.wwl.com/Article.asp?id=263617&spid=10173 i trust these sources more than ESPN. |
