Wasn't everyone praising Denver for fleecing a 3rd round pick for Lelie? This team is not a Donte Stallworth away from contending. We had Donte for at best 16 games. He was NOT re-signing with us. He was walking at the end of the year for sure. A 4th that has a chance to become a 3rd and Mark Simoneau is pretty good value for him. Granted it will not do as much for the immediate future of this team, but you need to focus on what is more important. 16 games this year and zilch after that, or much less for the next 16 games with a possibility of even small contributions for 2 or more years at a couple of positions with the possibility of hitting a gem or using that 4th round pick to make a big trade up happen.

You know what?
I bet stallworth gets hurt as early as week three or he gets into some off the field issues. I know everyone thinks that our front office is stupid but look. Ricky Williams, Lecharles Bently ( he didn't even make it to the first preseason game, freak accidentnone the less), Dwigtht Smith. I mean we might look stupid but sooner of later our front office's intuition always to proves right. |

that writer for the phili daily news along with everyone else in the nfl seems dillusional of stallworth and what he does on the field. the only reason he was drafted so high is b/c he ran a really fast 40. he didnt do anything great in college and same with the saints. i really doubt hes as fast as people thin he is. hes definitely fast but when u see devery run or reggie bush run or even michael lewis back in his day they had great game playing speed much better than donte displayed. his hands are like stone if u noticed how good our wr's did against KC w/o donte we didnt miss him at all. not to mention his offseason arrest in miami this guy is very average and dissapeared many times last season even in his last game when he needed less than 100 for 1000 he didnt come close. im glad hes gone and now that hes on a team that will get more national attention, theyll soon know why we got rid of him for what we did.

You hit the nail on the head. Honestly I haven't seen Donte utilize much "game speed" either, After the catch(when he doesn't drop it) he's average at best....whereas every time Reggie touches the ball he is at full speed and you can see it all the time. I'm not going to get on the catching issue.....gawd knows we've beaten that horse dead. I read the funniest thing the other day....Donte's nickname at UT was "Hands"....lol. |

I hate to bring it up again...but if you think this guy is a legit #2 receiver, take in the fact that in his 4 year career, he has never posted back to back games with at least 70 yards receiving. That is terrible. Not a true #2 and never will be.

well i think on october 15th we play philiy in the dome so donte will get his chance at payback. lord please dont let him break out against our corners. i really hope we hit him hard every time they look his way with a pass even when he drops it. my friend has two tickets to that game hes not gonna be able to use. it might be nice to see donte in person get tackled after a 4 yard slant route and get up acting like he was a split second from takin it to the house like he does on every play.

Don't mean to get off topic but remember the run against Jacksonville a few years ago on the last play of the game? I remember Stallpepper in that one, but it also reminds me we really need a new kicker. Nice guy but I think Morty Anderson could hit some of those chip shots at 46 years old.

I know Stallworth is a talented player, but it really pisses me off when sportswriters don't know what they're talking about. They're talking like Stallworth is a huge deep threat who is a #1 receiver. Last season he became our #1 WR when Joe went down with injuries. Even in the #1 role, he couldn't break 1000 yards. Deep threat? He didn't have a catch longer than 43 yards last season. Yes he's fast, but it kills me that these writers can't see anything past that. Stallwort ran crappy routes, had decent hands at best, was unprofessional (even Joe Horn called him out on this one), and did I mention he dropped a lot of balls? People are ripping on us for giving him up? The guy is at best a #2 receiver. He's handed the first WR duty and he can't catch more than 70 balls. Why? Sure, maybe it was because AB was awful, but hell, Chris Chambers had Sage Rosenfels or some crap throwing him the ball and he hauled in 82 catches; Derrick Mason had Kyle Boller throwing him balls and he still nabbed 86. The fact is, Stallworth is nothing more than speed. He's fast as hell, and sportswriters think he just turns on the afterburners when he catches it, but apparently they haven't seen a Saints game ever because a long of 43 yards isn't exactly what I consider a "deep threat." Alge Crumpler, Jeremy Shockey, and Todd Heap all had longer catches last year (two of those TEs: Crumpler [13.5] and Shockey [13.7] had as good as/longer average per catch than Stallworth [13.5]) So really when it comes down to it, we lost a guy who's fast but really never steps up. Could he have made that transition with a new QB and coach? Maybe. But I know one thing; all of those drops in the preseason games (including two perfectly placed balls in the Colts game) shows me that it doesn't really matter who's throwing this guy the ball.
And we didn't exactly "give" Stallworth away. We got a draft pick and we got a player. He might not have been starting for the Eagles the last two years, but the last time he did (2003), the guy recorded 101 tackles. He's also playing behind some really good LBs in Philly, so just because he wasn't starting doesn't mean he's no good. It's been years since we've had a 100 tackle guy. He's also supposed to be a great locker room guy. Payton has shown from the start that he wants high character guys, and I think that's what we got. I don't think this trade is that bad. Yes, I think our WR corps is a little worse off, but at least we got something for him, and I wouldn't count Simoneau as just a special teams player yet, he's already practicing with the 2nd team defense. |
