Puzzling moves to me..

What's the deal with waving Hilton? I'm sure there were on-field issues, Payton's finding his guys, but seriously. Hilton's good enough to start at TE on 15 or 16 teams in the league. Why can the Saints afford to simply discard him? And I still don't care; I'm going to be pissed about the Stallworth trade. |

RE: Puzzling moves to me..
Some people on this board are down on Ernie Conwell, but I'm not sure why. He is a proven veteran at TE, and has shown me no reason that he should be benched in favor of a guy who didn't really do much this preseason.
That is the reason for waiving Hilton. Although, based on his performance last year, he might've brought something in a trade. But, I supposed Peyton wanted him off the roster before they had to pay him. |

Conwell sucks! Players can get his stats of his career all in 1 yr
The reason was because Lawrie outplayed em...Lawrie is better than Hilton in blocking and catching, with Lawrie's large frame at 6'7"and strength on the line, Payton selected him instead of Hilton Lawrie was the best TE all Camp long, seriously....This guy never got a chance and Brees loves this target |

I was pulling for Hilton as much as anyone. The reality is though he just could not block at all. With our dreadful O-line I think TEs and 2 TE sets will be vital in helping them out. I haven't surveyed but I would be willing to bet he couldn't start on but a few teams. He won't even for the Jets. He is a role player. One fantasy site said this about the move- It's a good landing spot for Hilton. New York is looking for a pass-catcher at tight end, where Hilton will backup Chris Baker. He's still not worth owning in fantasy leagues.
Good luck to him there. If he can get that long body able to block he'll turn into a full fledged tight end. |
