this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; LTF, I'm seeing 4-5 because we're going to commit more towards stopping the run and Smith. That means less rushers, but still 5 sacks would be awesome....

RE: can we beat carolina?
I'll love 4-5 sacks just as well , if we put pressure on Jake he'll snap, I know we can stop Foster so Jake will have to win this game..

Sure we can
Just don't forget that Carolina has recovered and gotten Smith back...We need to stop their sorry running game, and force Jake to beat us...We need our start DT's so far(Young and Thomas) to press the inside early Another thing we need to do early if keep an eye on the big physical recivers like Carter and Johnson, put Deloatch on Johnson and Thomas can man up with Carter...MM needs to focus and read a bit better than average going against Smith...If we can stop the run, execute, and develop some nice drives, we'll beat them 4 sure! |

This will be our toughest test yet. We already know we can stop the run but Delhomme, Smith, & Johnson are going to test our corners, which seem to be the only weak link in the defense so far. If the D-line can keep pressure on Delhomme, he'll make errors......if they don't, it could be a long day. Make no mistake.....they have improved, but our corners are still suspect. This will also be the biggest test for our young offensive line. With all that said, I think will put a cleat in Carolina's a**! Final score: Saints-24 Panthers-17

This is going to be the big test for the season. We have to step on Carolina now to be able to take control over the division (I'm pretty sure we can roll Tampa, just scare the spleens outta them, and Vick is probably already trying to come up with another excuse for choking next time we meet), so this game has serious playoff implications. The players know it and Payton most definitely knows it, so they will come out swinging.
The problem is that Carolina, when they're on top of their game, match up well against us. They have great receivers and a QB who has a tendency to come up big when it counts, and that defense is a younger, leaner version of Tampa's. Of course, Steve Smith has been hurt and no one else on offense has stepped up, the o-line has gotten banged up and turned Delhomme much more skittish, and the D has been spotty. Basically, they haven't been playing anywhere near as good as they can, but that makes them dangerous. It would be easy to just overlook them. They want to win as bad as we do to stay in the hunt. I think this game will come down to coaching and gameplanning more than anything else. We know how our guys can play when the chips are down, and I think they'll still be riding the high of the past 3 weeks and not lose any of the focus they've shown lately. If Carolina manages to regain some discipline and plays up to their ability, it will be a real dogfight. That seems like a big if right now, though. |

Their banged up woeful O-Line should be weaker than Atlantas. The biggest positive they have to me is knowing how important it is to scrounge a win and not be 1-3 behind the 4-0 Saints. |

I think we can beat them.....stop the run and hope our corners can cover the field....Look for Harper to put a monster hit on Smith....that guy has a mean streak in him and I think Harper will want him out of the game early...
