Coach Payton, you just gotta love how he works the refs
What a far cry from Haslett's f'bomb barrages.
1.- the intentional grounding call. That was genius, because he actually worked the ineptitude of the referees. I have never, ever seen an intentional grounding call on a pass that goes 20+ past the line, nort have I ever seen a coach complain of intentional grounding when the ball goes 20+ past the line. Yet , there's Payton just about in the middle of the field with a puzzled expression asking the refs "who did he throw to"?... 60 seconds later, BAM, flag. 2.- The challenge on the 3rd down play where Reggie stretched in flight to reach the 1st down marker and the refs spotted the ball short. Coach Paytom sees the spot, walks towards the spot flag in hand, sees the chain go past the ball a few inches, then bends over and gingerly drops the flag between the ball and the stick, right in the ref's face. |
