#10 Atlanta Falcons (3-1)
The Giants will be an interesting test. New York's secondary has been had this year, although Washington wasn't up to it, but I don't think much of the Falcons in the air. If they can do one of their adding-machine numbers with rushing yards, then I'll be impressed and it'll be reflected in the rankings, provided, of course, someone makes room for an upward move by Atlanta. #13 New Orleans Saints (4-1) I saw the following written regarding rookie punter Steve Weatherford, who is booting them so well that injured regular Mitch Berger might not get his job back next year: "Weatherford might wind up the Wally Pipp to Berger." Dear fellow journalist: Wally Pipp was the Yankees' regular first baseman, who sat out the game with a headache one day, thereby paving the way for Lou Gehrig. He wasn't, you see, the guy who ... oh, why do I bother? #16 Carolina Panthers (3-2) Center Justin Hartwig played four years in Tennessee with Albert Haynesworth. Lest you think that the stomping incident was an isolated occurrence, here's what Hartwig had to say about his ex-teammate: "When he's getting beat, he tends to lose control of his emotions and he gets irrational and he doesn't think straight. At the beginning of training camp my second year, I was blocking him during a pass-rush drill and he was bull-rushing me. When he let up, I dropped to my knees and he reared back and kicked me in the chest. I grabbed his foot.... I was going to dump him on his back. One of the other linemen came in and cleared him out.... I never talked to him. He's just the kind of guy I stay away from." #29 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4) The File of the Unknown Quarterback. Bruce Gradkowski, drafted in the sixth round. After his 107.6 rating and near-victory over the Saints, he now rates as the Steal of the Draft, as Tom Brady, another sixth-rounder, once was. At Toledo he set an NCAA career record for completion percentage. At the combine he ran a 4.59, fastest of any of the QBs. The book on him was that he was a fine candidate for a short-passing offense but didn't have the big arm necessary for a down-the-field attack, hence his low draft status. The roster of coach-breakers is filled with big-armed quarterbacks. Complete Rankings.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...rt1/index.html 8) |

RE: Dr. Z Rankings and Commentary
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. For God's sake, let's let the guy get a couple of games and some wins before we crown him "The Next Best Thing". Yeah, he was impressive but we hardly ever got in his face. He just might be stupid enough not to be scared and it was only beginner's luck. After all, what did the Bucs have to lose by him throwing those long passes. Nothing. No use playing it safe when you're winless and your starting QB almost died.

Now that teams have a little film to view on Gradkowski he may not play as well this week as he did in his first start.

No analysis.
No rationale as to why this team is here <vs> higher or lower. This man gets paid for this poop? To steal euphoria's line...................... Power Rankings are gay. |
