TE John Owens signed / DE Eric Moore Cut
The Saints had to sign an extra tight end this week because starter Ernie Conwell is out for Sunday´s game with a knee injury and third-stringer Nate Lawrie is iffy with a back problem. Four-year veteran John Owens was signed to back up Mark Campbell and Billy Miller. Owens caught 5 passes for 49 yards in 24 games for the Lions and Bears. To open up a roster spot for Owens, the Saints cut defensive end Eric Moore.
http://www.bayoubuzz.com/articles.aspx?aid=8793 John Owens Position: TE Height: 6-3 Weight: 255 Born: 01/10/1980 College: Notre Dame NFL Experience: 4 http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/302101 John Owens, TE - Notre Dame Owens by the numbers Ht: 6'3" Wt: 271 40-time: 4.77 Bench press: 390 Vertical jump: 35" Positives: Solid blocker with a muscular, compact frame...Quick to get his hands up on a defender...Has quick feet and plays with an aggressive nature...Does a fine job of getting to the second level to cut off and neutralize the linebackers...Has an explosive release off the line... Maintains his balance while absorbing the hits in traffic. Negatives: Slightly undersized and could be used more as an H-back…Has problems "keeping his leg" underneath him when trying to maintain position vs. the larger defenders... Needs to develop better hand usage as a blocker, as he tends to try and wrestle with his opponent. CAREER NOTES: Returned to his "roots" as a senior…Began his collegisate career as a tight end before shifting to defensive end as a junior…Returned to the offensive side of the ball in 2001, establishing himself as one of the finest athletes in the Fighting Irish program. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nfl/2.../johnowens.htm Hmm thought Moore would have stuck. Owens has not done much after his first year so I am a bit confussed. But hey Shawn has done that to me before. |
