this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Why are people blaming the defense for these last three loses(Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals)? The offense was the problem in these games. And why does Drew Brees not get dissed for throwing these three ints? He lost this game....

Fred Thomas burnt? I'm sure it looked that way on television, but I think someone is forgetting that there is this position called "safety" and that player is responsible for covering over the top. Neither of Johnson's long TDs were Thomas's fault. Does anyone really think the coaching staff would leave Fred Thomas out on an island covering Chad Johnson?

Saintsrule didn't say everyone. Most here are chiming in on the pass coverage. Which thread are you reading, GoldRush? 8) |

Hey Safties were to blame from mental errors as well... but Thomas got into position once the WR broke and then stops, the WR takes off and Thomas sits there WTF. Horrible job on all of them, but he took the cake that day.

Thin damn thin... almost invisible is how I'd characterise our seconday. Lets hope they get inspired in the second half of the season.

1 sack and 0 safety help had a lot to do with what went wrong Sunday. Horrible schemes... the defensive gameplan gets an F. Face it, not many corners in this league can stick Chad Johnson 1 on 1. I thought Thomas did the best he could... give him a break.

I am not down on Fred Thomas. No one can really expect him to cover Chad Johnson. What I don't get is why wasn't Mike McKenzie the one getting burned by Chad Johnson? Isn't it common knowledge that the best CB on a team plays the best WR for the other team? I agree that the safeties did suck, and did not provide any support for Thomas during the game. The Saints also need a better pass rush if they expect to start slowing some teams down. The lack of depth is killing the Saints defense, they look to wear down in the 2nd half of most games played this year.
