Defense vs. Offense!!!

Subguy,

Blatant sarcasm...don\'t hurt yourself with those big words, you might fall down or something. Here\'s my point. Tampa has had that defense for at least 4 years now. How many superbowls have they won? Maybe you should give a little more credit to what Gruden did with that offense. Ya think?

whoa, whoa, whoa.. give gruden credit for what he did what the O? what O? there line sucked for most part of the year... they had no running game.. brad johnson? can u actually consider him a QB? ill give him credit for the D, he did the smart thing.... and not change any of the D coaches from when dungy left... that was brilliant... then in the superbowl... gruden implemented his system to counteract the raiders system.. have u forgotten that he was the raiders coach the year before.. it wasnt the bucs who won the superbowl.. it was there system... and he also got some help from rich gannon who played the worst game of his career... 5 ints? gannon hadent throwed 5 ints the whole year... and dexter jackson? he played the best game of his career.. then what does he do.. leaves for AZ... wow he must have been pretty impressed with gruden and winning to just leave like that... makes me wanna sign with the bucs... winning the superbowl b/c the matchup was favorable for tampa... one more victory during the regular season and it would have been us playing for the title against the raiders....

Pak,

News Flash........Brad Johnson threw for 2,799 yards, 22TD\'s, and only 6int\'s, so yeah, I\'d say that qualifies him as an NFL quarterback. What did Gruden do for the offense? Here ya go..........improved Brad Johnson\'s QB rating from 74.2 to 90.59, Averaged 34.5 pts per game in the post season, rushed for 1,571 yards in the regular season. All of those are improvements from the previous year. Don\'t get me wrong, the defense had more to do with them winning the superbowl, but don\'t overlook what the offense did.

Bottom line...Defense is more important to have. BUT, it only works if you have an offense that doesn\'t suck.

I think one of my earlier posts did say, Defense wins championships. Look at past Saints, the secret to the having that championship team is being able to score enough to support the D. However when we were the Kings of the D, Morton Andersen couldn\'t provide enough points.

um billy...
tampa might have averaged 34.5 pts in the post season but about 60% of those points were from the D

OK this post is basically worthless, but Gator, are you sure you\'re not thinking of \'01? They had the 4th best defense in the league statistically in \'01 when they lost to the Patties. Honestly I can\'t remember how their defense ranked in \'99, but I think I would remember if it had been that highly ranked... then again I do drink alot.

Regardless, their offense helped to make their defense better that year. They jumped out on people so quickly that it made most teams abandon their game plan to play catch up. That allows your defense to pin its ears back and go after the QB big time. Our offense does the same for our defense... the problem is that we have a couple of big rocks up front in place of DTs and linebackers who have a hard time finding the field let alone the quarterback.

If you need some backing Gator, I got your back. The 2001 Rams defense ranked 1st in the NFC in yards per game allowed and yards allowed total, and 4th in point allowed per game. That was in the NFC. And if my memory serves me right, the 1999 was a better statistical year for their defense than 2001 was.
