I hate to bring this up, but I thought the exact same thing 6 years ago, when a first year head coach named Jim Haslett took us to the play offs, and won for the very first time in our history. Then he took us on a roller coaster ride for five years, that always left me sick at the end of the season.

I'm not saying that's going to happen again, but we should give it a couple of seasons, before we march Payton up and down Bourbon Street on our shoulders. Many coaches in history have gotten their teams to the play offs, and never did more than that. Look at Mike Martz. He took the Rams to the Super Bowl, lost, and was fired two seasons later. Now, I know you guys hate negative thinking, but you also have to keep yourself grounded in the fact, that one season, does not make a career.

Payton is on the right track. I just hope he doesn't derail the way Haslett did. That's not negative thinking, that's being real.
The diference in 2000, and now is the fact that Ditka left us with nothing, at lest Coach Payton had desent talent, and draft picks to work with, Coach Haz had nothing but a talentless squad, and no draft picks for a couple of years. So the future looks a little brighter than past staff, besides the QB position is a hell a lot more stable than in 2000.
So, in effect, you are saying that it wasn't Haslett's fault, for what happened to the team in the seasons following 2000?
