few more saints notes

Here is what i learned today:

Will Smith is not at all unhappy about Grant getting paid. In fact, it has become a joke amongst the d-linemen in the locker room. Smith knows his payday is coming and the ongoing joke is whether or not Grant left enough money for Smith. He is perfectly fine with Grant getting paid.

Since the draft, aaron Stecker has stopped showing up for OTA's. Not exactly the professional way to handle the team taking a RB in the draft but oh well.

There are a few O-lineman upset with some comments made by Andy Alleman. Upset enough to have Doug Marrone call Alleman up and tell him to shut his mouth.

Thats all i have for now. Peace.

hagan714 05-09-2007 05:26 AM

oh yeah smith is in for a big pay day soon enough. I had problems believing he was really that upset. He just does not seem to be that type.
Stecker is a bit of surprise. I thought he would have stepped up to the challange. But maybe this is why we drafted a RB. gotta wonder.
What did Alleman say? I have not read anything that would lead me to believe he has caused a problem. Did I miss something? Well what ever it is he will get a big dose of rookie hazing on and of the field during camp to keep him in check.

SapperSaint 05-09-2007 08:50 AM

Let us know what Alleman said.

papz 05-09-2007 09:38 AM

Just because he transferred doesn't mean he lacks loyalty. You think maybe lack of playing time had anything to do with it? He was recruited as a DT and maybe he just never fit there. There are TONS of college players that transfer after a year or two because of lack of playing time. Does that mean they're not loyal? Free agents switch teams all the time... does that mean they have no loyalty? From my point of view, I see it as putting yourself in a position to succeed.

Oh yea... did you know his hometown is Akron, Ohio? Maybe he wanted to be closer to his family and friends? After transferring he started 24 straight games at RG after switching positions. I have no problem having a mauling guard with a mean streak.

Bobaganoosh 05-09-2007 10:04 AM

I dont know word for word what he said...but it was something along the lines of "...I am not going in there and do stupid rookie things for the offensive lineman."

"...I am not going in there to be anybody's b**ch"

"...I am not going down there to sit on the bench, i am going down there to take jobs."

Now those arent direct quotes, but what was said was very similar. Stinchcomb and Faine dont seem to be early fans of his. We shall see how this plays out.

papz 05-09-2007 10:06 AM

I don't know what happened in high school for him to transfer (do you?) but I do not fault him for transferring back home in college. Hell I went to LSU for a year and transferred back to New Orleans. I must lack loyalty.

WhoDat205 05-09-2007 10:16 AM

Those quotes could be a lot worse than that. To me they show fire on Alleman's part and a little pre-season posturing.

Uhh... if I were a rookie, I wouldn't want to be anyone's @#%^ either. If I were a rookie, I would want to come in there and take someone's job too. What rookie actually enjoys hazing? He's saying how he feels.

Quick let's all jump on the Alleman hate-wagon! Or not.

JOESAM2002 05-09-2007 10:24 AM

Not I said the duck! I think i'll wait a while to pass judgement.

ScottyRo 05-09-2007 10:45 AM

Those are things I want a rookie O-lineman to think, not say. I don't know that he said them so I am not going to condemn him for it, but he needs to be sure to be tactful when making these types of remarks.

He's a rookie after all and doesn't know what he's going to face.

Euphoria 05-09-2007 10:54 AM

yeah but come on... when someone gives you crap and wants you to play a position that you have no heart for and rather play a different position then by all means if the team isn't working with you then go to another team that will make you happy and also you'll have more heart to play with because you are happy at that position.

I say let him go against W.Thomas on one on one drills and see if he really was "the most athletic offensive lineman in the draft" like he proclaimed. There was a scouting report out there (I read it awhile back but can't locate it) that said that Alleman had a bit of an attitude problem and thinks he's better than he really is.Tellin' ya, just don't like this kid too much. In high school he transferred his senior year and then transferred from the Univ of Pitt. If loyalty means anything, he's lacking. He's the kind of kid that I hope we don't get in a contract dispute with later down the road because he will jump ship real quick.

Where is this scouting report about attitude? Is it the same one that says he is limited physically? Get off the guy already.

As for loyalty, he did not get PT at Pitt and did not want to play defense. Were they loyal to him? He followed his position coach to Akron, real disloyal, right?

And who isn't going to jump ship if they are unhappy? Mike McKenzie? L.Bentley? J.Horn? Grant wasn't happy a month ago either. That's just the business

hagan714 05-09-2007 11:44 AM

Well he does want to be anybodies b***h. gotta love it. He definitly will get an extra shot or two on each play now. We will definitly see what this kid is made off. He just "pumped it up" more than an a bit now.

SapperSaint 05-09-2007 12:46 PM

I think he just doin' a little SMACK talkin'. In some ways it good and others not so good.

I was under the impression he might have said the Saints suck or something like that.

The VETS will see what he's made of.

papz 05-09-2007 12:47 PM

I don't know about anyone else but I loved Kyle Turley's mean streak and he was a hell of an offensive tackle for us.

An all that other high school mumbo jumbo... when did this happen again? How many years ago? And... where's the reason why he transferred? And if you say it doesn't matter... then your just being bias. There's a reason for everything. His best interest got him drafted in the 3rd round by Sean Payton inc. That's enough for me.

You couldn't careless if he got cut the first day? WTF? Are you really a Saints fan? Are you hoping he fails? You're willing to give Walter Thomas who has a horrible background another chance and you aren't letting Alleman in the door. That's comical.

Euphoria 05-09-2007 12:55 PM

I transfered high schools in my day. Once because parents moved, and something about I had to move with them...lol. The other I made because I wanted a better chance at competing for a state championship.

Lets see Quotes... no one has produced quotes yet???

The interviews I have seen, he is a stand up good guy so far.

If you are, that's certainly not nice.

SapperSaint 05-09-2007 01:21 PM

PAPZ,

I think he was referring to me.

I think he understands, he like many of us, just want the best for and out of our team.

papz 05-09-2007 01:35 PM

I see... ok.

papz 05-09-2007 02:40 PM

I misunderstood, my bad. Anyways, we're all our own person and entitled to our opinions. Like I said before, this is just one thing we're just going to continue to disagree on... but that's ok, it gives us something to talk about.

saintsrule 05-09-2007 03:33 PM

I am surprised that Andy is getting dissed. Usually only certain players get dissed.

He doesn't represent me -- or North Canton. He turned his back on this community when he transferred to Massillon. I couldn't care less if he gets cut the first day. In fact . . .

I can't believe I got sucked in and actually went to this site. You copied and pasted the ONE negative comment out of the first 15 posts listed; all others wished him luck. Who do you work for, Fox news? Real objective post.

nedly 05-09-2007 06:14 PM

I would love for Alleman to take someones job on this team, or at least challenge them all. It's so easy to get complacent after a year of success and fresh talented, hungry rookies can make the team better by competition. He just might be real good! There's never a day gone by without some kind of drama. It serves to fire people up. As long as he can back up his word because he will be put in his place if he overestimated his ability.

SFinAustin 05-12-2007 02:50 PM

I'm gonna have to call bullshot on this one. Sorry...

If those are really his quotes then I am saying "HELL YEAH! This guy has passion and FIRE! I love him."

I've been meaning to reply to this for some time but have had no opporitunity to do so. Now it's old news so it doesn't matter I suppose but that scouting report was from one of the pre-draft magazines that I had purchased which was either ProFootballWeekly or Lindy's. It raised flags with me also as I read it immediately after the Alleman pick and was questioning the F.O. for it and wondering who the heck this guy was.
I hope that Allemans comments are more of a positive underachiever statement than cockiness but from Bobaganoosh's reporting it would seem to be the latter.

That said, it sounds like Alleman has been performing well in rookie performances according to Coach Payton.

Opptimism is high, the waiting period is long and it hasn't felt this good being a Saints fan in a long time.

TURLEYFAN 05-14-2007 08:25 PM

What is so bad about a young, aggressive, mean lineman?Any running back or quarterback in the league wants a guy like Turley in front of them.Even Brett Favre has said things he realized he shouldn't have said.Give the rookie a chance to get his foot out of his mouth.

f'in Benedict Arnold..... :P

bobcat4u2 05-15-2007 07:16 AM

When you speak of being loyal, don't forget coachs and schools. coachs recruit with big promises and leave for more money or get fired by unhappy allumni.even down to high school ball.i've even seen parents move to get in certain programs or get a job given to them to move to an area.let's judge performance

hagan714 05-15-2007 07:51 AM

High school who cares. he was 17 or 18 at the time. If you have a problem with it talk to his parents. They had the final say in it. Get real

College he switched for playing time and new position. Seems to have been a smart move. If he stayed put he would have stayed on the defensive side of the ball and not gotten drafted probably. If he did this as buisness move yall would respect the kid more. Oh yeah this is a buisness. Hats of to the kid. Smart move. Just made a few million more than if he would haved stayed.
