Kinda makes sense. If your under the cap, which we are, renegotiate with your stars and shift more cap hit to this year, freeing up more cap room for 2008 and beyond.
Not sure it works that way, but it looks good on paper. |

I was hoping they would wait until the end of the season to re-do Smith's deal. Guys always play hard in a contract year. Nevertheless, I understand the move and figure the FO knows what they're doing way better than I do.

nothing wrong `with feeling out his demands. Once again remember next year is a big FA year. Then you have Colston coming up the following year among others. Better to map it out than drive blindly into the night.
