I don't think physicality is a detriment in soccer...the reason we suck is because everyone plays football, so we're stuck with suburban, white-collar pansies like Landon Donovan on the National Team. You give Champ Bailey, Reggie Bush, Devin Hester a soccer ball at birth and you're winning World Cups like crazy. America has the best athletes, the best coches, the best facilities and the best supporters in the world. Bottom line...(execpt for Ichiro).

RECORD BOOK: Southern Illinois placekicker Craig Coffin has already set a new tournament PAT record with one game yet to play. Coffin has converted on all 15 extra points so far to surpass the previous record of 12 set in 1999.

We beat Germany which I thought would be the hardest team in the group.

I agree that USA is one of the nations with the best athletes, the best coaches, and the best facilities. Australia is another. Australia, like USA, perform very well in most of the sports that are their national sports and moderately at other sports.

Physicality works up to a point in soccer. But not at top tournaments when skills and finesse wins.

Totally agree. I just said it's not a detriment. I think the US has the athletes to be competitive internationally, they just all play football, baseball and basketball. I.e. the subject of this thread. If Chris Paul and LeBron had grown up with soccer balls instead of basketballs, the USMNT might not have been killed by Argentina at the Copa America last week.

But hey! LeBron and Paul can't beat Argentina at basketball, so maybe I'm crazy!
