Fantasy Geeks, where do Saints players rank?
Where do you think certain players should be ranked/picked?
I think that Brees should be the #2 QB picked in fantasy football based on last years stats and the fact that he has even more options this year. I'm sure you all don't need for me to explain who #1 is. He'll probably go near the end of round 2. RB is is a tougher call due to the fact that the Saints have 2 RB's that could start for most teams. Bush will most certainly be picked before McAllister due to the fact that the Saints use him all over the field as Receiver and RB. He'll probably go at the end of round 1. Duece is not only the starting RB but he is also considered the "goal-line back", an area the Saints will be familiar with throughout the season. I'm guessing he'll go at the end of round 2. The receiving core is much harder to decipher as no one knows who will start other than Colston. So I'll focus on Colston. The big man will probably be between the 10th-15th Receiver picked. I really like this kid, but as far as fantasy goes it's hard to know how many times he'll get the ball in a game due to the way that Brees spreads the ball so well. TE is a question mark because of Eric Johnson's health but if Johnson stays healthy throughout the season he'll have big numbers. I have no doubt about that. The Saints defense is middle of the pack. An o.k. #2 defense in my mind. Olindo. What's he going to do? I'm a homer so I'll probably pick him up late in the draft as I'm guessing no one in my draft is even thinking about him. Big leg in a dome. I'll take a flyer on him. I really want to pick up Brees. I'm guessing that he'll put up some tremendous numbers. What do you guys think? |

I think Brees is a solid #3 QB pick. I would pick Brady higher considering all of the new receivers he has...of course Archie's Boy goes first.
I think Deuce is a good sleeper pick in a later round since - as you mentioned - he's a goal-line back and could be the pro-version of LenDale White to Reggie Bush. Not a lot of ypg, but a bunch of TDs, and if the Saints are leading, he's getting a lot of touches. I will avoid the Saints' receivers b/c of the way the team spreads the ball around. Not to tip my hand, but I may take a flier on Meach in the late round of the the keeper league draft...but that's about it. I think you summed it up about Johnson, the D and Olindo. |

It depends on how many teams there's going to be. I have Deuce and Bush as second round backs due to the fact they'll split time. In PPR leagues, Bush is a legitimate first round pick. If it's a 12 team draft in regular scoring formats, Bush is a late first rounder... but if it's an 8-10 team, he's a early to mid second rounder. There's no way Deuce jumps into the first round... mid second rounder at best in my books.
As far as Drew Brees is concerned, I have Peyton and Palmer ranked above him. If McNabb is fully healthy, I'd probably take him over Brees also... maybe even Palmer. Tom Brady is 5th. As far as receivers, Colston is probably going to be drafted somewhere in the 4th or 5th round. For the true believers in his abilities, late 3rd is even a possibility. Henderson is a late rounder as an shaky 3rd WR at best. Spot starter imo... I'd only draft him only as a 4th or 5th receiver on my team. If he suddenly gets hot, I'd play him at WR 3 but I'd rather have a Jericho Cotchery though. There are much better options out there than Henderson. Eric Johnson. He's going to get picked when the kickers and 2nd defenses are coming off the board... if even. Obviously we like him here on the Saints forum, but he hasn't been healthy nor has he had a solid season in a long time. He's basically a sleeper... I personally wouldn't draft him. I'd add him via free agency after the draft. Our defense definately isn't a number 1 defense. We don't create enough turnovers nor do we keep them from scoring. Our high octane offense hurts the value of our defense. Maybe a number 2 defense... but I wouldn't draft them either. As far as Mare is concerned, he's worth drafting. Our offense will give him plenty of field goal and extra point opportunities. He does have a strong leg so should he decide to start hitting those 50 yarders, the bonus will certainly be helpful. The dome turf should be his best friend. Solid kicker that should be drafted in the last two rounds somewhere. |

If it was guaranteed that McNabb would be healthy for the whole season I would definitely pick him 2nd after Manning. His health is a risk and I wouldn't take that risk before Manning, Brees, Palmer, Brady, or Bulger are off the board. Palmer and Brees both have good reason to be the next QB's picked after Manning. Both have terrific offenses that require them to throw early and often. Johnson and Houshmandzadeh or Colston and Bush? Duece or Rudi? Both teams defenses are average.. It's pretty much a tie in my book so If I have the choice between the two, it's gotta be Brees. I'm with you on the receivers and you're probably right about Johnson. |

First of all, Saint players are valued higher in local drafts simply b/c we think we know so much about them. Use this to your advantage when drafting. Some homer will draft a Saints player before someone else just to have a hometown player on there roster. Draft with your head not your heart.
Here is how I rank them. QB- Brees goes behind Manning, Palmer, Brady, and maybe Bulger( if he signs an extention before the season) RB- Bush and Duece splitting time will hurt both of them. Bush is a Late 1st, early 2nd round pick. Duece will be late 2nd early 3rd. WR- Besides Colston, who will be a 5th or 6th round pick, I doubt you will see another receiver drafted un tilthe late rounds. Henderson is a late round flier along with Meachem. TE- Johnson is a gamble and gambles get pick by the morons in the league(every league has at least 2) If he playes the way he did 2 years ago, look out. I wouldn't take him at all, he has not been healthy and the Saints haven't used a TE since Hoby Brenner. (Of course now that I say this he wil tear it up) K- Mare is a good pick. Kicking in a dome and a high powered offense are what you look for in a kicker. He will be de-valued somewhat becauce of last year's numbers. Think of him as Carney with a stronger leg. Def- If you count special teams then the Saints rank higher b/c of Reggie in the return game. If you are looking for turnovers, look elsewhere. On a personal note, I never draft Saint players, I always have bad luck with them. For example, last year I had Joe Horn. Sorry |

I think the only locks as top 3 at their position are Brees and Mare. Olindo might not be the third best kicker, but with our offense, he will be the third best scorer.
I disagree with the board on Bush over McCallister. Reggie caught a ton of passes last year, but only took about 5-6 carries per game away from Deuce, which meant Deuce was more effective and had a chance to break longer runs. Also, Deuce is going to get the ball in redzone because he runs north-south. Plus, he fumbles less. As for receivers & TE's, just sit and wait. They are always available as FA in weeks 2-3. Everyone is going to jump on Colston early, which I think is a mistake. Defense is a nice sleeper pick. I don't I would start them week one, but after that definitely. |

You think that Brees should be the 5th QB picked? Different. I'm a homer but Brees should be the 2nd or 3rd QB picked. |

We have 8 owners in our league, I plan on drafting Brees or Brady my first over all pick, I think I'll can get Brees for a few dollars cheaper compared to Brady, in our league anyway, I know how the owners in my league think, (Brady to Moss) just not sure who'll I'll go after at this time.
My heart says Brees but I can't count out Brady this season, IMO Brady will light it up this season. Last year I drafted Bush and he gave me decent numbers but as said Duece will get a lot of carries this season I think so I'm not quite sure yet on Bush, as of now I'm thinking of drafting The Deuce over Bush. Colston will be my #1 WR, I just have to find a way to get my hands on him, Colston numbers will be incredible this season IMO. Henderson is in a contract year so I expect he'll try to light it up this year to get the money up next season. |
Rest In Peace JoeSam, thanks for everything my friend.
