I remember most ot it. I was thinking the other day about the hardest time I ever cried in my life. I cannot remember what year it was, but the Saints lost to the Rams in the final game of the season, which in turn, knocked us out of the playoffs. Ken Stabler was playing against impossible odds, as I recall, he and half the offensive players were injured in some form. Despite that, they played their hearts out, but the odds overcame them.
Anyone remember what year that was?

I think I remember that rams game well. Saints were leading most of the game and the fans were going nuts. Then the play. The major play in that game was russel erxleben (sp) being the last defender on a punt return and he looked like the biggest WIMP ever seen on a football field. Rams scored the TD and I think that tied the game. Erxleben never cam close to the runner, gave a sorry diving attempt and hurt himself on the play. I think that was reds last game as a saint? Ironically, the saints took a time out before the play because Morten wanted to kick the feild goal ... bum decided for the punt.

The most painful one to me was the Falcons game, 80ish? Saints leading, time expires on the clock, Bartkowski throws a 50 yard hail mary into the end zone, ball bounces off 10 Saints hands - touchdown Falcons. I could\'ve cried.

I hate the Falcons to this day.

It was 1983, I remember it well. I was sitting in the stands with Stan Brocks wife waiting on the celebration. There were enough tears to go around that night. It was heart breaking.

That Rams loss was tough. Saints under Bum had very good defenses but could only come close. That year though coulda, woulda, shoulda, been a playoff year. Urks!Slay-(has)Been made at least two major goofs in that game. The peter pan whiff attempt should have been bad enough by itself. We did have the ball with time running out facing a 4th & short in the Rams territory when we called time-out. Options to ponder. Make the long field goal and Rams must score TD with long field and little time left. Miss it and they would have pretty decent field position to work with. Go for it on 4th down, make it and run out the clock. Giving the ball back on downs would have been similar to missing the field goal. Punt? O.K.! Pin them back deep with a high booming punt that could only be fair caught, or, directional kick it out of bounds not allowing it to be caught at all. Naah! Instead, out kick the coverage with a low enough punt to be fielded. Allow the returner to bring it back into our territory. Trot out Lansford. Nail in the coffin.

All losses hurt. Some linger a lot longer. That one is still painfull mainly because above all, it hinged on that moment to knock us out of the playoffs or put us in the playoffs.

A post that could start the next great debate would involve the top 10 wins and losses of all time. I don\'t have the stomach for it tonight, so I\'ll elect to defer on the coin toss and kick. (It\'s just that the losses seem to hurt 10 times as much as the wins feel good, that is, until we win the superbowl.) THIS YEAR!
