Saints, Bengals to hold joint practices
by Dave Lawrence, NewOrleansSaints.com
Monday, August 06, 2007 In advance of their preseason game set for Saturday, August 18 in Cincinnati, the New Orleans Saints will travel north and hold a pair of joint practices with the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, August 16 at the Bengals’ Paul Brown Stadium practice fields. Each team will hold a separate practice inside the stadium the following day, Friday, August 17. Since the Bengals will have concluded their training camp by this time, these practices will not be open to the public. Saints Head Coach Sean Payton met over the phone with Bengals’ coach Marvin Lewis and the two decided it would enhance their teams’ preseason preparation to compete against each other on the practice field in addition to the game setting. “Marvin is an excellent coach and we’re looking forward to this opportunity to practice with his team,” Payton said. “After a few weeks of facing their own teammates twice a day on the practice field, I feel that giving our players a different look will provide a welcome change for them, as well as giving us two more competitive practice sessions to prepare for the season.” The Saints will break camp themselves following the game in Cincinnati, returning to their home practice facility in Metairie. Tuesday Update: The Saints return to the practice field at Millsaps College for two practices Tuesday. Both sessions will be held on the Upper Fields at the team's training camp home in Jackson, Miss. with the first beginning at 8:50 and the afternoon practice getting going at 4:20. |
