hey, if you don't like martin as a veteran backup, I hear a guy named Brooks is still available

I watched Yesterday's game 3 times today. Jamie Martin is not a good QB. I think palko is better because he's a playmaker. Our defense isn't good enough for a "busdriver" type QB that tends to fumble when contacted. We need a QB thats not afaid to make plays.

BlackSaint...I remember watching that carolina game and thinking...This Kat Sucks!

I read today that the speculation is that if something serious happened to Brees, Payton would bring in one of the old vets that are still available and make him the starter. I think Martin might be the 1 or 2 game plan, but if it went longer, then Payton would sign someone he knows, and still has a little gas in the tank...

...namely, Drew Bledsoe.

I am not too thrilled about Martin either. He's a career back up and he's 37. The pass to Bush was extremely horrible. Not only was it a few feet behind him, but it was pretty low too. The fumbles weren't pleasing and I know at least one could have been prevented just by protecting the ball when he felt pressure. He has no arm strength what so ever.

I liked some of the things I seen out of Matt Baker. The first series he was in, they blitzed the hell out of him and couldn't get nothing going. Pittman seems to have a problem picking up blitzes. The second and final series he had a 17 play drive which in itself was impressive, but only came away with a field goal. That's not bad considering how long he's been here. I liked what I seen out of the kid.

What I would do is keep two young backups for QB's. If Brees goes down, our season is over anyways so why not have two guys you can coach up and hope one of them works out for the future? I guess I am not sold by any means on Martin, never was.

Bobby Scott . . . career back-up behind Arch. Finally got to play when Arch broke his arm in '76. I won a game jersey of his in a raffle that year. (I know, I know, . . . WOO-HOO!)

As far as Martin goes, yes he got pounded due to missed blocking assignments (RB fault). Holding the ball too long really didn't come into play because it was 1, 2, BAM! But he does hold the ball too long, running a couple seconds behind in his checks. The Carolina game last year (our 2nd teamers against 1st team defense) was a good example. Sure he got nailed a couple times because of missed blocks, but he has always been a couple seconds late, too.

Truth is, we're done if Brees goes down. If, God forbid, it happens, then Martin goes in for a couple of games. Two games is all he'll get and Payton will pull him for (a.) another veteren brought in gets in (i.e. Bledsoe) after getting a couple of weeks of practice or (b.) Palko makes his debut. None of it will be a pretty sight.

He seemed to do well, when not being hit.

my my how the times have changed... I remember opting out on 2004 season tickets because I was so fed up with AB. Now fastforward to 2007 and we`re wondering who will be the back-up to our pro-bowl QB. What a great dilemma to have.

I have complete and total faith that at the end of preseason Payton will weigh the talent at the #2 QB position and make the best decision for the continued success of the team. If Martin lands the #2 QB job it will be because he`s the best option, not because Payton`s heart bleeds for ageing players.

Enough Bobby Scott bashing. No backup, in the history of the NFL, ever held a clip board better than him.

Right now we are stuck, unless we get a VET backup in here. Are we really ready to bite the bullet and dump him and go with rookies as back up? He did not play with the first team line again. Alot of them were held out of the game. I am impressed with roation of the second string line. They did good. Not great but good.
He has problems but he has yet taken the field with the first team OL. He will never be Drew and non of his back up have shown they can do his job against a first unit deffense either.
One more year and he is a FA and it is a safe bet he will not return. So watch the backups to him and lets see what we got for next year. I like what I have seen so far. They all can take a beating and do not shy away. #3 and #4 are going to be tuff calls.
