I think some of us need to realize that the 2006 draft was special and we got extremely lucky that year. What that rookie class did for us was amazing and we can't expect finds like that every year. Rookies take time to develop and Meachem is no different. Give the guy some time before you label him as a bust, first rounder or not, it takes time and because of his injury and missed practices he's a little behind.

Nothing??? bust??? He got a great TD pass... show flashes of brillance. WR takes on average 3-4 years to develop, its one of the hardes positions to master. Far from a bust just yet.

Re: meachem

By your definition Henderson is also a bust,
as was Deuce- 91 yards his rookie year

Ryan Leaf was a bust, Sullivan a bust, but they were given 2-3 years to prove it.

What do we need from Meachem this year? Pretty much nothing. Great teams draft players that help the team down the road.

Honestly, how much of a bust can a #27 pick be? You can't say that comming out of college, Meachem was not 1st-round material.

...and what they said about it being preseason and all that.

I think this draft-class is a good one. I think Meach can develop into a good #2 or #3 reciver in the NFL, Young will be a starting CB sooner than later, Allman has starter's talent. Palko could even develope.

If you go back to Devery's rookie year, I don't think he was in camp by week #2 (not counting the HOF week because the Saints didn't start camp early), or, if his hold-out was over by then, he certainly was not dressed out. Meacham already has a TD catch.

If you like Devery being on the roster, I predict that you'll like this guy, too - he's still adjusting to the NFL and needs time to develop.

Bust? The Saints have a long history of BUSTS (reference: Shawn Knight, Jonathan Sullivan, Alvin Toles, Russell Erxleben, Vaughn Dunbar) and it's way too early to put the "BUST" label on him.

Meachem is going to be good, he is still a rookie. He is learning the game. He does not have to be the starter this year, they have Henderson, Copper, Moore, and Patten on the team, and Meachem will start next year.

Way to early to label the kid. I know it's hard but for once we don't need our pick to start yesterday. We can bring him along slowly and give him time to adjust. When we are able to let him loose on the league, man it's going to get UGLY!

Good advice. Also consider the fact that Meachem wasn't a need pick. While the media keeps talking about the guy being Joe Horn's replacement, the fact of the matter is that short of being Calvin Johnson, he would have been at best the #3 receiver on this team. Henderson is finally coming into his own and will be the #2 receiver on this team. Like it or not, Reggie Bush is in fact the #3 receiver on this team. Everyone else including Patton, Moore, Copper, and Meachem, will be fighting for PT at the receiver position.

A good problem to have. Give the kid a year to develop his talent and then we'll figure out if he's in fact talented enough to displace any of the Saints' quality starting receivers.

I wouldn't say bust at this point, but he has certainly disappointed. I would expect a 1st round WR to come in and be competitive for a 3rd or even a 4th spot. Right now it looks like he'll be 6th and that's only because his draft position earned him a spot on the team.

How many people people thought that Henderson was a bust before last year? Stallworth? Granted neither has shown greatness, but both are showing to be well above average. Stallworth's hammy and questionable hands are keeping him from being great. Meachem will get his head screwed on straight by payton and company. He has more physical gifts(size, speed, quickness) than any of our other WR's and has pretty good hands too from what I have seen. He had knee surgery and his problems so far that I have seen have been in cutting and route running. This are the most over looked talents for a WR to posses in the NFL, and having had the knee problem he will not be able to learn as fast with a little hesitation to really cut on that knee. Once payton gets that out of him and his talents traslated into drive to become very good or great Meachem will be fine.
