Carney signs with Jags
ESPN - Jags sign veteran K Carney to replace Scobee - NFL
The Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday signed 18-year veteran kicker John Carney to fill in for the injured Josh Scobee, who is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Scobee suffered a quadriceps injury during pregame warm-ups before the Jaguars' regular-season opener against Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. Carney, 43, spent the past six seasons with New Orleans but asked for and was granted his outright release this spring when the Saints acquired Olindo Mare from the Miami Dolphins in a trade. Carney had worked out for a few franchises contemplating kicker changes before auditioning for the Jacksonville staff. Among the other placement specialists who worked out for the Jags were Billy Cundiff, recently released by the Atlanta Falcons, and Mike Vanderjagt, the NFL all-time leader in field-goal conversion percentage. Last season, Carney converted 23-of-25 field-goal tries for the Saints and all but one of his 47 extra-point attempts for 115 points. For his career, the former Notre Dame star has made 413-of-505 field-goal attempts (81.8 percent) and 510-of-517 extra points. He has scored 100 or more points in 10 different seasons and his 1,749 career points rank No. 4 all-time in the league. Carney has played for Tampa Bay (1988), San Diego (1990-2000) and New Orleans (2001-06) and has appeared in 250 games. Details of the contract he signed in Jacksonville were not immediately available. |

Re: Carney signs with Jags
I personally am starting to regret this decision. I know Carney is getting older, but Mare has been shaky at best throughout the preseason and in week 1. Crap.

Re: Carney signs with Jags
Ironic...
seeing how Jacksonville is the site of his most infamous missed kick ever... following the River City Miracle, an extra point takes us to overtime and he shanked it... Wow... it still hurts thinking about it actually... |

Depleted at safety, Redskins bring back Stoutmire - USATODAY.com
Another Saints cast off signed... Depleted at safety, Redskins bring back Stoutmire Posted 1h ago | Comment | Recommend E-mail | Save | Print | ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Depleted at safety because of injuries, the Washington Redskins signed veteran Omar Stoutmire on Wednesday. Stoutmire was in training camp with the Redskins but was cut Sept. 1. He played 10 games with Washington in 2005 and spent 2006 with New Orleans. He also has played with Dallas, the New York Jets and New York Giants in his 11-year career. The Redskins needed an extra body because two backup safeties were hurt in Sunday's 16-13 overtime win over Miami. Pierson Prioleau injured a hamstring, and Vernon Fox suffered a groin injury. The Redskins had a roster spot available for Stoutmire after their moves Tuesday, when running back Marcus Mason was cut, receiver Reche Caldwell was signed, and right tackle Jon Jansen was placed on injured reserve. All he had to do was wait for an injury.

Re: Carney signs with Jags
I wish Carney all the luck in the world, I'd love to see him do well when he gets a chance to play..
I have some regrets losing him but IMO the Saints made the right decision in cutting him due to his age.. I always loved Carney, he need very well for us while playing in N.O |

Re: Carney signs with Jags
Mare is the MAN on kickoffs, but that's about it. Man I really loved Carney and hated to see him live, but this is the Not For Long. I wish him well, except on Nov. 4 when the Jags come to town.
