Titans QB still upset over losing Heisman to Reggie Bush
Young gripes about lost Heisman on '60 Minutes'
September 27, 2007 NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Titans quarterback Vince Young thanked Reggie Bush for helping him get tickets to Monday night's game in New Orleans. That doesn't mean Young has forgotten losing the Heisman Trophy to the running back. Young tells "60 Minutes" in an interview performed in June but airing Sunday night that he was angry about not taking the Heisman Trophy back with him to Texas in December 2005. He finished second in voting behind the Southern California running back. "And I wanted to show the world that I was the real Heisman Trophy winner. But on paper, Reggie Bush is the Heisman Trophy winner. (I am) not taking nothing from him, he knows he's a phenomenal athlete," Young said in the interview. Is he better than Bush? "I always feel like I'm better. Always," Young said. Young responded by running for 200 yards and throwing for 267 in beating Bush and the Trojans in the Rose Bowl for the BCS national championship in January 2006. Young finished that season with 3,036 yards passing, 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He ran for 1,050 yards and 12 touchdowns. Bush had 1,740 yards rushing, 478 yards receiving and returned 18 punts for 179 yards. Bush led the nation with an average of 222.3 all-purpose yards and scored 19 touchdowns. Bush also was drafted a spot ahead of Young in April 2006. Young easily won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award by going 8-5 as a starter. He set a rookie quarterback rushing record with 552 yards and became the first rookie quarterback to play in the Pro Bowl since Dan Marino in 1983 as a late addition. Re: Titans QB still upset over losing Heisman to Reggie Bush
I get what Young is saying. He should be angry about it. That says something about the type of drive, motivation, and desire he has for the game. He is a true leader and the Titans are very fortunate to have him on their team. My personal opinion is Bush was the man that year and won it deservingly. But I love Young's attitude and the way he runs an offense.

Re: Titans QB still upset over losing Heisman to Reggie Bush
It's apples and oranges...........
Young is a QB, Reggie is a running back/flanker/receiver. Young has/had a ton more control over "who" got the ball "when", and under what conditions. The only way that Bush gets/got the ball was a specific play called for him, or the rare "impromptu" broken play or audible at USC. Same in the Pro's, only more so. NFL QB's get to audible, improvise, choose to run if they want, etc............... A good RB gets what, 20-25 carries a game? Maybe 4 passes? How many "touches" does the QB get? EVERY ONE! That's the number the QB gets. So for Young to complain and whine and cry over Bush getting the Heisman over him is really like whining that at cow is not a turnip. Completely different animal. The QB is the "de facto coach" on the field..............a la Vince Young. A running back is not. He's subject to what the coach and "de facto coach" on the field decide who's going to get the ball and what will happen. So, Vince Young is full of **** and sour grapes.........If Reggie Bush was the QB at USC at that Texas-USC game, and had the control over the ball that Young had for Texas..............USC would've won the game. Because Reggie Bush would run the ball from the pocket every play. And half of those runs would've either been 40 yd. gains or touchdowns. Because Bush is the better athlete all day long. No diss on Young. You compare Young athletically with other NFL QB's and yeah, he's an athlete. You line him up with Reggie Bush and he'd be left in the dust...............PERIOD!!!!!! |

Re: Titans QB still upset over losing Heisman to Reggie Bush
I understand where yer coming from lewpac, but Vince Young straight up owned that bowl game. He was more important to his team than Bush was. USC had other weapons....who did Texas have? Vince Young took over that game and won it. And as far as the whole better athlete talk, I dont care how good of an athlete you are if u dont perform on the field. Im not saying Reggie isnt performing, but if youve been around long, youve seen all the "athletes" from Haz's era, and that didnt work out well. Reggie is a miracle talent, im just waiting for that to turn into game changing attributes. He has the potential, but we need a game breaker every week. But dont take anything away from VY, he came into a crappy Titans team and is getting W's.

is this all really happening????

If the award had been voted on after the championship game, the outcome may have been different. Bush had alot more talent around him.
