Faine out, Young probable
by Mike Triplett, Times-Picayune staff writer
October 26, 2007 Saints center Jeff Faine is officially out for Sunday's game with a strained pectoral muscle. Saints defensive tackle Brian Young practiced fully on Friday with a minor knee injury and is listed as probable. Faine will be replaced by veteran backup Jonathan Goodwin, who gained a lot of valuable experience in the preseason when Faine was out with a strained calf. "It ended up being pretty important for me, getting to play with Drew and the first-team guys. So I have a lot of experience with them now," said Goodwin, who started 13 games at guard with the New York Jets in 2004 and 2005 before signing with the Saints in free agency last year. "Once you get out there and get to playing, it usually feels the same. Games are the fun time." ... The Saints practiced outdoors again Friday on another cool, breezy day that should at least slightly resemble the conditions at San Francisco's Monster Park. There is something that has been overlooked so far and yet to be discussed. It's of great importance and we all need to be aware of it.
Goodwin's first name starts with a "J". The Saints o-line won't miss a beat. |

Re: Faine out, Young probable
Goodwin is going to do fine on Sunday. He is a 6 year guy, with lots of experience. He could actually be a little better than Faine, in the short term, in that he is the bigger guy. Could help open the middle for running plays. The drawback to him playing is it may limit the Saints from using the shotgun at times. I really do not know how good of a deep snapper he is, but I would imagine that the coaching staff would not want to put that kind of pressure on him for at least right now.
